Pullman Danang Beach Resort in Vietnam earns Green Key certification

Pullman Danang Beach Resort has received Green Key certification, adding a recognised international sustainability credential to its operations on Bac My An Beach in Da Nang, Central Vietnam. The certification covers environmental management and responsible hospitality practices, including energy and water conservation, waste reduction and cooperation with local suppliers. For the resort, the recognition marks a further step towards integrating sustainability into both its daily operations and the experiences offered to international visitors.

Green Key is an international environmental certification programme developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). It is awarded to tourism establishments that meet defined sustainability requirements and demonstrate ongoing environmental management. According to the programme, more than 9,000 hotels and other tourism businesses across over 90 countries hold the certification. Pullman Danang Beach Resort reports that it fulfilled more than 150 sustainability criteria as part of the assessment process.

The development is particularly relevant to Central Vietnam, where coastal tourism, cultural attractions and local communities are closely connected. Da Nang has established itself as a major beach destination, while nearby Hoi An attracts visitors interested in heritage, traditional crafts and regional cuisine. By combining internationally recognised environmental standards with locally focused activities, the resort is seeking to strengthen the connection between its hospitality offering and the surrounding destination.

Environmental measures across resort operations

The certification reflects a series of operational initiatives intended to reduce the property's environmental footprint. These include energy-efficient lighting, water-saving technologies, investment in solar energy and systems for separating different categories of waste.

Food waste reduction is another area of focus. The resort has introduced measures aimed at limiting unnecessary food disposal while placing greater emphasis on responsible purchasing and the use of environmentally certified products.

Staff training forms part of the approach, with annual sustainability programmes designed to involve employees in environmental management. The resort also works with local stakeholders to incorporate sustainability considerations into its supply chain and everyday business practices.

General Manager Agnaldo Garibaldi describes the certification as recognition of an ongoing operational commitment rather than an isolated initiative.

“For us, sustainability isn't a separate project—it's part of how we do things every day,” he said.

Although certification provides an external framework for assessing environmental practices, the resort has not disclosed quantified reductions in energy consumption, water use or carbon emissions in its announcement.

Local food and cultural experiences

Beyond operational measures, Pullman Danang Beach Resort is incorporating regional products and cultural activities into its guest programme.

Its food sourcing includes seafood supplied by fishermen in Da Nang and seasonal produce from Tra Que Vegetable Village near Hoi An. The village is known for its agricultural traditions and provides a connection between the coastal hospitality industry and the surrounding rural economy.

Guests can also participate in Vietnamese cooking classes, traditional coffee-making experiences and local craft workshops. These activities introduce visitors to aspects of everyday life and cultural traditions that extend beyond the resort's beachfront setting.

Environmental participation is another component. Organised beach clean-ups give interested guests an opportunity to contribute directly to maintaining the coastal environment during their stay.

The combination of local sourcing and cultural activities reflects a broader approach to sustainable hospitality in which the relationship between accommodation providers and their destinations becomes part of the tourism product.

For tour operators and travel advisors, such experiences can provide additional opportunities to position a beach holiday within a wider Central Vietnam itinerary, particularly for travellers seeking a combination of relaxation, regional cuisine and cultural encounters.

The Green Key certification also offers a recognisable reference point for travel businesses assessing the environmental credentials of accommodation partners. However, the practical sustainability performance of individual properties remains dependent on the continued implementation and monitoring of their operational measures.

For Pullman Danang Beach Resort, the certification provides a framework for developing these practices while connecting its international hospitality offering more closely with the natural environment and communities of Central Vietnam.
