Aeroitalia selects Delta TechOps to support its Boeing 737 fleet

Italian airline Aeroitalia has selected Delta TechOps, the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) division of Delta Air Lines, to provide component support for its Boeing 737 fleet. The agreement was announced on 28 October 2026 during the MRO Europe exhibition in Amsterdam and marks a further expansion of Delta TechOps' commercial maintenance activities in the European aviation market.

Under the arrangement, Aeroitalia will gain access to Delta TechOps' component maintenance capabilities and spare parts resources. The programme is designed to reduce the time required to obtain replacement components, limit aircraft downtime and improve operational reliability. It will combine a component-sharing system with a dedicated spare parts inventory at Aeroitalia's main operating base, supporting the carrier's Boeing 737 Next Generation fleet.

The agreement also extends an existing commercial relationship between the two airlines. In 2025, Aeroitalia announced new connectivity opportunities linking its domestic Italian network with Delta's international route network. The latest cooperation moves beyond passenger connectivity into technical operations, reflecting Aeroitalia's efforts to strengthen the operational infrastructure supporting its growth in Italy and across Europe.

Faster access to aircraft components

A central element of the new programme is the availability of replacement parts when aircraft require maintenance. By combining access to a broader component inventory with spare parts held at its main base, Aeroitalia aims to shorten procurement times and reduce delays associated with technical issues.

Fabrizio Liberatori, Group Accountable Manager at Aeroitalia, said the agreement would help the airline improve the operational efficiency of its Boeing 737 NG fleet. The component-sharing arrangement and dedicated spare parts inventory are expected to reduce aircraft downtime, increase fleet availability and limit disruptions affecting passengers.

For airlines operating relatively small or expanding fleets, component availability can be an important factor in maintaining schedules. Delays in obtaining replacement parts may keep aircraft out of service longer than the maintenance work itself requires. Access to an established MRO provider's inventory and technical resources can therefore support more predictable operations.

Marc Meredith, Chief Commercial Officer for Delta TechOps, highlighted the operational experience behind the partnership. He said Delta would apply the maintenance expertise developed through its own airline operations to support Aeroitalia's fleet, with an emphasis on safety, reliability and aircraft performance.

Delta TechOps expands its European business

The Aeroitalia agreement adds another European airline customer to Delta TechOps' growing commercial maintenance portfolio. The company has recently secured additional airline business in Europe and the Americas, reflecting demand for component support arrangements that combine maintenance services with access to replacement parts.

Delta TechOps reported reaching $1 billion in maintenance, repair and overhaul revenue for the year to date. The figure illustrates the scale of its commercial MRO activities alongside the technical services it provides for Delta's own fleet.

According to the company, Delta TechOps supports more than 150 customers across six continents. Its operations include 25 in-house component workshops, which collectively service more than 100,000 aircraft components annually.

The company also provides maintenance support for several major aircraft engine families. Delta TechOps states that it is the only MRO provider in the Americas certified to support the CFM LEAP, Pratt & Whitney GTF and Rolls-Royce Trent engine families.

For Aeroitalia, the new arrangement represents an investment in operational reliability rather than an expansion of its passenger network. By strengthening access to maintenance resources and replacement components, the airline aims to support fleet utilisation and reduce the risk of technical disruptions as its operations develop.

For Delta TechOps, the agreement reinforces its position in the European commercial aviation maintenance market and demonstrates how technical cooperation can extend existing relationships between airlines beyond passenger services and network connectivity.
