Germany: Condor opens new technical training centre near Frankfurt Airport

Almost 1,000-square-metre facility in Mörfelden-Walldorf will train up to 15 apprentices a year as the airline builds its own pipeline of aircraft maintenance specialists

Condor has officially opened a new technical training centre in Mörfelden-Walldorf near Frankfurt Airport, investing in its own future supply of skilled aircraft maintenance personnel. The almost 1,000-square-metre Condor Technik Training Center combines classrooms with practical workshops and can accommodate up to 15 apprentices per year.

The facility was officially opened on 24 August 2026. Its first class had already begun training earlier in the month, with twelve apprentices currently preparing to become aircraft mechanics specialising in maintenance technology.

Training expands to additional professions in 2027

Condor Technik currently uses the centre to train aircraft mechanics in maintenance technology. From 2027, the programme is scheduled to expand with a specialisation in manufacturing technology as well as training for aircraft electronics technicians.

The centre has been designed to integrate theoretical instruction closely with practical work. Its main workshop contains workbenches, machine tools and other equipment used to teach the technical skills required in aircraft maintenance. A classroom and recreation area complete the facility.

For Condor, establishing its own training capacity is also a response to the aviation industry's long-term need for qualified technical personnel.

Condor aims to develop specialists in-house

“Well-trained technical specialists are essential to maintaining our high standards in aircraft maintenance. By training our own young talent, we can teach our working methods and quality standards from day one while offering young people long-term career prospects at Condor.”

The concept for a dedicated training centre was initiated by Condor Technik management two years ago. The project was intended to strengthen the company’s role as a training provider while creating a more direct route from vocational education into its technical operations.

Aviation jobs strengthen the Frankfurt region

The location in Mörfelden-Walldorf places the training centre close to Frankfurt Airport and one of Germany’s largest concentrations of aviation-related employment.

“With Frankfurt Airport, aviation is an important economic factor for our region,” says Mörfelden-Walldorf Mayor Karsten Groß. “With the new Training Center, Condor is creating attractive career opportunities for young people in an industry that is closely connected to our region.”

According to Groß, the investment also strengthens Mörfelden-Walldorf as a location for vocational training and business. With the first twelve apprentices already at work, the new centre has moved directly from its opening into regular training operations.
