IHG Hotels & Resorts has reached 200 open Hotel
Indigo properties worldwide, doubling the brand’s global footprint in seven
years. Hotel Indigo operated 100 hotels in 2019 and is now present in more than
30 countries, with a further 134 properties in the development pipeline.
The milestone comes as IHG continues to expand the
lifestyle brand across the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Greater
China. Recent growth has also taken Hotel Indigo into new markets. Over the
past two years, the brand has made its debut in the Caribbean with Hotel Indigo
Grand Cayman, in Portugal with Hotel Indigo Albufeira and in Peru with Hotel
Indigo Lima Miraflores.
Launched in 2004, Hotel Indigo is positioned around
individually designed properties reflecting their local neighbourhoods rather
than a uniform global hotel concept. Architecture, interiors, restaurants and
guest experiences are developed around the culture and history of each
location. That approach is now being extended to a considerably larger
international portfolio as IHG pursues further growth in both established and
emerging destinations.
Americas add new destinations
Expansion in the Americas has recently included Hotel
Indigo Turks & Caicos Grace Bay, the brand’s first property in Turks &
Caicos. In Mexico, new hotels include Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortes and
Hotel Indigo Tijuana Downtown, while Hotel Indigo Raleigh has joined the
portfolio in North Carolina.
Latin America and the Caribbean will remain part of
the development strategy. Hotel Indigo Guanacaste has been signed in Costa
Rica, adding another Central American leisure destination to the pipeline.
The recent openings follow Hotel Indigo’s arrival in
Peru with the Lima Miraflores property and in the Cayman Islands. Together, the
projects illustrate how the brand is moving beyond its traditional urban
lifestyle positioning and increasingly establishing itself in resort and
leisure destinations.
“Reaching 200 open hotels is a significant moment for
Hotel Indigo and a testament to the strength of the brand,” said Vicki Poulos,
Vice President, Luxury & Lifestyle brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts. She
said the concept continues to focus on the individuality of places, people and
local stories.
Growth from Bangkok to Ningbo
Expansion is continuing across Europe, the Middle
East, Asia and Africa. Recent openings include Hotel Indigo Bangkok Thonglor in
Thailand, Hotel Indigo Gloucester – The Forum and Hotel Indigo London K West
Shepherd’s Bush in the UK.
IHG has also signed Hotel Indigo Phuket Nai Yang Beach
in Thailand and its first Hotel Indigo in Egypt. The Egyptian development will
introduce another first for the brand, with Hotel Indigo-branded residences
planned as part of the project. Hotel Indigo Riyadh Al Olaya is scheduled to
bring the brand to Saudi Arabia in 2027.
Greater China is another growth market. Hotel Indigo
Ningbo has recently opened, while properties in Chongqing Chaotianmen and
Jingdezhen Taoxichuan are among the upcoming additions.
With 134 hotels in development compared with 200
currently operating, the pipeline represents roughly two-thirds of the brand’s
existing global portfolio. The expansion also broadens Hotel Indigo’s
geographical mix, combining city-centre hotels with properties in cultural
districts and an increasing number of leisure destinations.
For IHG, the 200-hotel milestone therefore marks an
intermediate stage rather than the completion of Hotel Indigo’s expansion. If
the current pipeline is realised, the brand’s international presence will
extend substantially beyond the footprint it has already doubled since 2019.
