Lufthansa has been named “Best Airline – Europe” at
the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards 2026. The award was presented in
Singapore and is based on votes from travel industry professionals across Asia.
The recognition comes as the German airline continues to expand its premium
long-haul offering and strengthen connections between Asian markets and its
European hubs.
The award coincides with an important phase in
Lufthansa’s product development. On 26 October 2026, the airline will introduce
its new Allegris cabin concept on flights to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur,
marking the first deployment of the product in Southeast Asia. The introduction
forms part of a wider investment programme aimed at improving passenger comfort
and offering more personalised travel experiences across different cabin
classes.
Lufthansa is also marking its centenary in 2026,
providing a backdrop to the latest developments in its international network
and onboard services. The airline is combining the rollout of new cabin
products with improvements to its Future Onboard Experience (FOX), while
continuing to develop connections between Asia and Europe. For travel agents
and corporate travel buyers in the region, the changes are particularly
relevant to premium long-haul services and onward connectivity through
Lufthansa’s European hubs.
Allegris expands into Southeast Asia
The introduction of Lufthansa Allegris represents one
of the airline’s most significant investments in its long-haul passenger
experience. The concept covers First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy
Class and Economy Class, with different seating configurations and service
features designed to address varying passenger preferences.
Singapore and Kuala Lumpur will become the first
destinations in Southeast Asia to receive Allegris-equipped aircraft on 26
October. The expansion also coincides with Lufthansa’s introduction of Kuala
Lumpur as a new destination, adding another important market to its regional
network.
The airline is positioning the new cabins as a central
element of its premium travel strategy. Alongside physical improvements to
seating and cabin design, Lufthansa is developing its onboard service through
the FOX programme, which focuses on the wider passenger experience.
Gilles Burgat, Lufthansa’s General Manager for
Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei, welcomed the recognition from the Asian travel
industry.
“Being named Best Airline (Europe) by Travel Weekly
Asia is a tremendous honour and a testament to the trust our customers and
travel partners place in Lufthansa,” Burgat said.
He also highlighted the significance of the airline’s
centenary and its ongoing investment in Allegris and the Future Onboard
Experience as part of its efforts to deliver more personalised premium
services.
Asian connectivity remains a priority
Beyond cabin modernisation, Lufthansa is continuing to
develop its position in Asian markets through connections to its European hubs.
These services provide passengers with access to the wider Lufthansa Group
network, including destinations throughout Europe and beyond.
For travellers departing from Southeast Asia, the
combination of long-haul services and onward connections remains an important
consideration when selecting an airline. Lufthansa’s investment in new cabin
products is intended to strengthen its competitiveness in this market,
particularly among passengers seeking premium accommodation and comprehensive
international connectivity.
The Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards
recognise companies operating across several sectors of the travel industry,
including airlines, hotels, cruise operators, destinations and travel services.
The 2026 edition featured 46 award categories, with
winners determined by readers and travel industry professionals from across
Asia. Unlike awards based on operational statistics or independent technical
assessments, the Readers’ Choice Awards reflect the preferences and perceptions
of participating industry representatives.
For Lufthansa, the recognition comes shortly before
the introduction of Allegris services to Southeast Asia, providing additional
visibility for its investment programme in a region where international air
connectivity and premium travel products remain important elements of airline
competition.
