Thailand has strengthened its international tourism promotion with a major presence at World Travel Market London 2026, bringing 47 tourism businesses to the British capital under the theme “Healing is the New Luxury”. From 3 to 5 November, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) presented wellness experiences, traditional craftsmanship and sustainable tourism products to travel buyers from the United Kingdom and other international markets.
The delegation included 37 hotels and resorts, eight destination management companies and two additional tourism businesses. Eighteen exhibitors participated for the first time, while 29 returned to the event. Representing destinations including Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Phang-nga and Surat Thani, the companies presented accommodation, travel experiences and services designed to attract international visitors seeking more personalised and culturally engaging holidays.
Thailand's participation comes amid continued growth in demand from the British market. Between 1 January and 31 October 2026, the country welcomed 808,214 visitors from the United Kingdom. TAT expects arrivals to exceed 1.04 million by the end of the year, potentially making 2026 the second consecutive year in which British visitor numbers surpass one million. Forward bookings for travel between October 2026 and March 2027 were also reported to be 15.3% higher, supporting Thailand's efforts to encourage longer stays and travel beyond its established resort destinations.
Wellness and cultural experiences take centre stage
The Thailand Pavilion presented a sensory approach to destination marketing, combining contemporary design with elements of traditional Thai culture. Its central concept explored how local craftsmanship, nature and wellness practices can become part of a more meaningful travel experience.
Under the title “Worth-Life Balance”, the presentation introduced three dimensions of mindfulness. “Reconnect” used forest-inspired fragrances to evoke Thailand's natural landscapes, while “Presence” focused on traditional indigo-dyed textiles and craftsmanship. “Relax” highlighted singing bowls and sound-based relaxation practices.
Visitors could also participate in workshops to create indigo-fabric brooches and tie-dyed notebook covers. These activities demonstrated how traditional skills can be incorporated into tourism experiences rather than presented solely as cultural displays.
On 3 November, Princess Ubolratana visited the pavilion and prepared two Thai dishes using natural ingredients and herbs, drawing attention to the country's culinary traditions and their relationship with local knowledge.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool emphasised the importance of moving beyond conventional measures of tourism success.
“As TAT marks its 45th year at WTM London, we are looking beyond visitor numbers to the value travel creates for people and places,” she said.
The strategy reflects Thailand's growing emphasis on travel experiences that combine leisure with well-being, cultural participation and engagement with local communities.
Sustainable tourism gains commercial importance
Sustainability formed another important part of Thailand's presentation in London. Among the participating businesses, 24 were involved in TAT's STGs STAR – Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating programme, while 12 represented the CF Hotels initiative. Two exhibitors had received Thailand Tourism Awards.
The delegation represented a broad geographical range, including Bangkok, Chon Buri, Krabi, Phang-nga, Phetchaburi, Phuket, Rayong and Surat Thani.
For international tour operators, these initiatives provide opportunities to identify accommodation providers and local partners participating in Thailand's sustainability programmes. They also support the development of itineraries that extend beyond the country's best-known beach destinations.
TAT is targeting several traveller segments with potential for higher-value tourism expenditure, including responsible tourism, luxury experiences, wellness, sports tourism, digital nomads and celebration travel.
The emphasis on health and well-being is particularly relevant to Thailand's positioning in long-haul markets, where travellers increasingly combine traditional holidays with spa treatments, relaxation programmes, cultural activities and nature-based experiences.
Rather than focusing exclusively on individual luxury resorts, the tourism authority is seeking to connect these experiences with broader destination development and year-round demand.
UK market remains a strategic priority
The United Kingdom continues to rank among Thailand's three largest long-haul source markets. According to TAT, the country is expected to generate more than 71.6 billion baht in tourism revenue from British visitors during 2026.
The tourism authority anticipates at least 1,440 business appointments resulting from its participation at WTM London, with projected tourism revenue exceeding 1.51 billion baht. These figures represent expectations rather than confirmed business generated during the event.
Air connectivity remains an important part of Thailand's market development strategy. TAT is strengthening cooperation with Virgin Atlantic and Norse Atlantic Airways to support international access and future visitor growth.
The authority is also planning a familiarisation trip for British tour operators in June 2027. The programme will focus on Khao Lak in Phang-nga province, allowing participating companies to explore local tourism products and assess opportunities for new itineraries.
For travel businesses, the initiative offers a route to developing more specialised Thailand programmes that combine coastal holidays with wellness, nature and cultural experiences.
Thailand's presence at WTM London therefore extends beyond destination promotion. By bringing together established suppliers, new exhibitors and businesses participating in sustainability initiatives, TAT is seeking to translate growing international interest into commercial partnerships and a broader range of tourism products for the European market.
