Global air passenger demand growth slows to 2,6 percent in June due to Middle East disruptions
Global air passenger demand increased by 2.6% year-on-year in June, marking a slowdown compared to previous months, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported on Thursday.

The deceleration is attributed to disruptions stemming from ongoing military conflict in the Middle East.

According to IATA, total air capacity – measured in available seat kilometers – rose by 3.4% during the same period. However, since demand growth lagged behind capacity expansion, the global load factor declined by 0.6 percentage points compared to June 2024, settling at 84.5%.

International passenger demand rose by 3.2% year-on-year in June, while domestic demand increased by 1.6%.

IATA Director General Willie Walsh commented:

“In June, demand for air travel grew by 2.6%. That’s a slower pace than in previous months and reflects disruptions around military conflict in the Middle East. With capacity expanding by 3.4%, load factors have slightly declined from their historic highs.”

Despite this, Walsh emphasized that global load factors remain robust:

“At 84.5%, the load factor is still very strong. And with only a modest 1.8% increase in scheduled capacity for August, we expect load factors during the Northern Hemisphere summer to remain close to recent record levels.”
