IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with
Newhope Real Estate to develop Regent Chengdu, introducing the luxury brand to
one of Southwest China’s fastest-growing gateway cities. Scheduled to open in
the third quarter of 2029, the hotel will become the first Regent property in
Chengdu and further expand IHG’s luxury presence across Greater China.
Located in the heart of Chengdu’s Jinjiang District,
the hotel will occupy the upper floors of a new 233-metre landmark tower,
overlooking both the city skyline and the Jinjiang River. The project reflects
growing demand for high-end hospitality in one of China's most important
cultural, commercial and tourism destinations.
Landmark location in the heart of Chengdu
Regent Chengdu will be situated between the 39th and
48th floors of the D10 Wangjiang development, just minutes from Chunxi Road,
Tianfu Square and Chengdu’s historic commercial centre. The hotel will offer
180 guestrooms and suites, combining panoramic city views with Regent’s
contemporary interpretation of luxury hospitality.
Designed around the brand's philosophy of creating
calm, refined spaces above the pace of urban life, the property will feature
signature restaurants, a dedicated spa and a series of personalised guest
experiences intended to deliver a highly individual stay.
“Chengdu has long been a key market for IHG in Greater
China and is also home to our West China regional headquarters. As a gateway to
Southwest China, the city brings together rich cultural heritage, a vibrant
consumer market and strong potential for luxury hospitality growth. Regent’s
debut in Chengdu marks an important milestone for the brand while further
strengthening our luxury presence in the region. Together with Newhope Real
Estate, we look forward to creating a landmark hotel that captures the distinctive
character of Chengdu while delivering Regent’s signature experience. We remain
committed to creating meaningful stays for our guests and long-term value for
our hotel owners,” said Daniel Aylmer, Chief Executive Officer, Greater China,
IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Partnership combines global luxury with local identity
For Newhope Real Estate, the project represents an
opportunity to further position Chengdu as an international luxury destination
while reflecting the city's distinctive cultural character.
“We are delighted to partner with IHG on the
development of Regent Chengdu. As a company rooted in this city, we are
committed to contributing to Chengdu’s continued evolution and creating
destinations that connect the city with the world. Located within the D10
Wangjiang development, Regent Chengdu reflects our vision of bringing
world-class hospitality to Chengdu while celebrating the city’s distinctive
character. Together with IHG, we look forward to creating a destination where
guests can experience the city through Regent’s refined approach to modern
luxury,” said Jiang Mengjun, Chairman and President of Newhope Real Estate.
Regent continues strategic expansion in Greater China
Founded in 1970, Regent has become one of the flagship
luxury brands within the IHG Hotels & Resorts portfolio. Since acquiring
the brand in 2018, IHG has focused on repositioning Regent as a leading name in
contemporary upper luxury hospitality.
The transformation began with the opening of Regent
Shanghai Pudong in 2020, followed by Regent Chongqing in 2021. Today, the brand
operates 11 hotels and resorts worldwide, offering more than 3,200 rooms, while
another 12 properties are under development.
In Greater China, Regent currently has six operating
hotels in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Chongqing and Taipei. The signing of
Regent Chengdu further strengthens the brand's presence across the region's
major gateway cities and supports IHG's continued expansion in the luxury
travel segment.
