Lufthansa's centenary fleet is set to grow with the
arrival of its first Airbus A350-1000, which has been unveiled in a special
anniversary livery at Airbus' Toulouse facility. Painted in Lufthansa's
signature blue with a white XXL crane and the inscriptions "1926 |
2026" and "100", the aircraft celebrates the airline's 100th
anniversary and marks another milestone in its fleet modernisation programme.
First A350-1000 to join the fleet
Before entering service, the aircraft will complete a
series of test flights, cabin installations and final acceptance procedures. It
is scheduled to be transferred to Lufthansa's Munich hub this autumn, where it
will operate under the registration D-AIFA and carry the name
"Deutschland". An official naming ceremony will take place at a later
date.
The aircraft also represents a significant milestone
for Airbus, becoming the 700th aircraft delivered by the manufacturer to the
Lufthansa Group.
Modern long-haul aircraft with four travel classes
Measuring 73.8 metres in length, the Airbus A350-1000
is seven metres longer than the A350-900 and accommodates 300 passengers across
four travel classes: First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy
Class.
Lufthansa has ordered 15 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft,
with deliveries scheduled through 2030.
Seventh aircraft in the anniversary fleet
The new A350-1000 is the seventh Lufthansa aircraft to
wear the airline's special centenary livery. It joins an Airbus A350-900,
Airbus A380, Boeing 787-9, Boeing 747-8 and two Airbus A320neo aircraft already
flying in the commemorative design.
According to Lufthansa, the anniversary livery has
attracted considerable attention from passengers and aviation enthusiasts
around the world, underlining the airline's celebrations marking 100 years
since its founding.
