Ryanair introduces larger free cabin bag size across all airports

Ryanair has completed the rollout of larger baggage sizers at all 235 airports in its European network. From today, every passenger may carry one free cabin bag measuring up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm – an increase of one third compared with the EU standard size of 40 x 30 x 15 cm.

What passengers can bring on board

The free bag must fit under the seat in front. Passengers who wish to carry a second cabin bag can do so by purchasing Ryanair’s Priority Boarding service. Checked luggage remains available as an add-on during booking.

Adjusted sizers at all airports

New baggage sizers have been installed at every Ryanair airport to reflect the larger allowance. This ensures consistent measurement of the free item across the airline’s entire network.

Statement from Ryanair

Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer Dara Brady said:

“As of today, Ryanair’s free cabin bag is 33% larger than the EU standard. We have adjusted our baggage sizers at all airports to measure this new size. Passengers who wish to carry a second cabin bag can add Priority Boarding, and checked bags remain available at booking. We believe our customers will appreciate this more generous allowance, but travellers exceeding the limits will still be required to pay the gate-checked baggage fee.”
