Hilton will introduce its Tempo by Hilton lifestyle
brand to Germany with a new 199-room hotel at the MUNICH ARENA campus near
Munich Airport. Tempo by Hilton Munich Airport Arena is scheduled to open in
2029 alongside the new concert venue, combining accommodation, dining and
wellness facilities with direct access to a major live entertainment
destination.
The signing gives the expanding brand its first
foothold in Germany. Tempo by Hilton currently has 86 hotels either operating
or in the development pipeline, with European projects also announced for
Belfast city centre, Lisbon’s Parque das Nações and Reykjavik. The Munich
property will be operated under a management agreement with Allresto Munich
Airport Hotel and Restaurants GmbH, a subsidiary of Munich Airport.
Its location is central to the concept. MUNICH ARENA
is being developed as a live entertainment campus, while Munich Airport handled
more than 43 million passengers in 2025. The hotel is intended to serve concert
visitors, artists and crews as well as travelers using one of Germany’s
principal international aviation hubs.
Hotel becomes part of the concert experience
For the MUNICH ARENA developers, accommodation forms
part of a wider strategy to extend the visitor experience beyond the
performance itself. Guests will be able to remain on the campus after concerts
rather than traveling elsewhere for an overnight stay.
“For us, everything begins with the music,” said
Lorenz Schmid, managing partner of MUNICH ARENA. “A hotel on the campus is part
of that answer. After the last song, the evening continues on site. Fans,
artists and crews stay where the music happens.”
Hilton sees the project as an opportunity to establish
Tempo in a location combining international transport and leisure demand.
“Germany has been a key market for Hilton for more than 50 years, and we’re
thrilled to bring Tempo by Hilton to the country for the first time,” said
Thorsten Faasch, managing director, development, DACH at Hilton.
The hotel’s design will follow the brand’s focus on
active travelers. Guestrooms will include a dedicated “Get Ready Zone” with a
vanity mirror, desk and open wardrobe. A gym will provide cardio and weights
areas as well as space for recovery.
Café and rooftop bar planned
Food and beverage facilities will include a
ground-floor café designed for both quick meals and longer breaks. A rooftop
bar will offer cocktails and small plates, adding an evening venue to the hotel
and the wider entertainment campus.
The project also extends an existing relationship
between Hilton and Allresto. The Munich Airport subsidiary has leased the
property from SWMUNICH Accomodation GmbH, part of the MUNICH ARENA group, and
will work with Hilton on its operation.
“We are excited to be once again collaborating with
Hilton, particularly as this marks a first for the Tempo by Hilton brand in
Germany,” said Andreas Reichert, managing director of Allresto Munich Airport
Hotel and Restaurants GmbH.
The 2029 opening will place the hotel at the
intersection of two substantial visitor flows: passengers using Munich Airport
and audiences traveling to the new concert arena. Rather than functioning
solely as an airport hotel, the property is therefore being conceived as part
of the entertainment campus itself, with its restaurants, bar and accommodation
extending the arena experience beyond the event.
