Albania
is more than just a travel destination: it is a rising star in global tourism
with plenty of potential for investment. Positioned strategically in Europe,
the country boasts developing infrastructure and government policies that
favour foreign investments.
According
to guidelines issued by the World Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism), there are
five compelling reasons to invest in Albania. They include: a liberal and
reformist investment climate, optimal geographic location, economic growth and
stability, infrastructure development for high-end tourism, sustainable and
environmental focus.
A
tourism sector with strong growth
2024
was a prosperous year for Albania in terms of economic and tourism growth. 11.7
million visitors visited the country, emphasising the steady rise of the
tourism sector. This booming sector significantly contributes to GDP and offers
opportunities in hospitality, real estate, and associated industries.
The
country marked a historical record of Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) in the
first nine months of 2024, totalling €1.16 billion. The majority of the FDIs
came from Türkiye, followed by Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, and
France.
Attractive
investment incentives and strategic projects
Proactive
government measures, such as the Strategic Investment Law and support from the
Albanian Investment Development Agency (AIDA), facilitate investment in tourism
and other strategic sectors. The “Start-up Law” encourages innovation and
entrepreneurship.
Strategic
tourism projects in the country surpass €3.09 billion, and have created more
than 17,000 jobs. Global hotel brands are increasingly establishing a presence,
further boosting the sector.
Albania
prioritises sustainable tourism practices, aligning its growth with the UN’s
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making it an appealing choice for
investors focused on ethical and long-term opportunities.
Innovation
and long-term growth opportunities
The
country is home to over 154 start-ups in diverse sectors such as financial
services, tourism, technology, and innovation. The country’s focus on
greenfield investments, worth $135 million in recent years, highlights its
innovative approach to economic growth.
Recognised
as “Europe’s last unturned stone”, Albania offers a unique blend of natural
beauty, cultural richness, and untapped potential. Its tourism competitiveness
makes it a standout destination in Europe and Eurasia.
The
country’s ongoing development in infrastructure and focus on year-round tourism
positions it as a forward-thinking destination for businesses seeking long-term
growth opportunities.
A
solid scheme for investment promotion, a stable economic outlook, and the best
performance in Europe in international arrivals demonstrate the potential of
the country for a more innovative tourism sector for all.
Investing
in Albania offers the chance to tap into a rapidly growing economy with robust
government support, strategic initiatives, and abundant opportunities in
tourism, infrastructure, and innovation.
