Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, reported strong visitor engagement at Malaysia Fair Jakarta 2026, held from 4 to 7 June at Gandaria City. The event, organised as part of the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026 (MYMT 2026) campaign under the theme “Healing Meets Hospitality”, highlighted the continued appeal of Malaysia’s healthcare, wellness, travel and education offerings among Indonesian consumers.

Bringing together healthcare providers, tourism companies and educational institutions under one roof, the fair provided visitors with direct access to medical services, travel packages and study opportunities in Malaysia.

Leading healthcare providers showcase specialised services

A major feature of the event was the participation of 20 Malaysian healthcare providers, including MHTC’s flagship medical tourism hospitals such as Island Hospital Penang, Institut Jantung Negara, Mahkota Medical Centre and Subang Jaya Medical Centre.

They were joined by a wide range of specialist institutions offering services in areas including fertility treatment, cardiology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology and advanced medical screening. Visitors were able to meet healthcare professionals directly and explore treatment options tailored to their needs.

Travel and education partners broaden the offering

The event also featured seven leading travel agencies, including Dwidaya Tour, TX Travel, Habibi Tours, Baltic Golf & Travel Specialist, A&L Holidays, AWB Cruise and Golden Rama Tours & Travel. Together with Malaysia Airlines, the official airline partner, they presented holiday packages combining leisure travel with healthcare services.

In addition, several Malaysian higher education institutions, including Taylor’s University, UCSI University, INTI International University, Todak Academy and MILA University, provided information and consultation services for prospective students and their families.

Indonesia remains Malaysia’s largest healthcare travel market

“Malaysia Fair 2026 reflects our continued commitment to strengthening Malaysia Healthcare’s presence in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta, as one of our most important and high-potential markets,” said Suriaghandi Suppiah, Chief Executive Officer of MHTC.

“Through this platform, we aim to bring trusted Malaysian healthcare closer to Indonesian communities while reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a preferred destination for quality healthcare, compassionate care and seamless patient experience.”

The importance of the Indonesian market continues to grow. In 2025, Indonesian patients generated approximately RM2.2 billion in healthcare travel revenue for Malaysia, representing a 23 per cent increase compared with the previous year. Healthcare traveller arrivals from Indonesia rose by 16 per cent, with more than 970,000 Indonesians seeking treatment in Malaysia.

Health screening, gastroenterology, oncology, endocrinology, cardiology and orthopaedic surgery were among the most sought-after treatment areas, reflecting Malaysia’s broad range of specialised medical services.

Ambassador highlights trust and cultural connection

The fair was officially launched in the presence of MHTC brand ambassador Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, one of Malaysia’s most recognised public figures and a well-known personality among Indonesian audiences.

Her participation highlighted the role of cultural familiarity and people-to-people connections in strengthening confidence in Malaysia’s healthcare sector.

“My TTC journey took almost 10 years, and I understand how important it is for patients to receive not only quality treatment but also reassurance, understanding and hope throughout the process. As a Malaysian, I am proud to help share the strengths of Malaysia Healthcare with our friends in Indonesia and the wider region,” she said.

Cross-industry collaboration supports growth

The event was supported by strategic partners including Econolab, JavaMifi, Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel and Batik Air. Their involvement further enhanced the visitor experience while demonstrating the growing collaboration between healthcare, tourism, hospitality and transport sectors in supporting Malaysia’s medical tourism ambitions.

With Indonesia continuing to account for the largest share of international healthcare travellers to Malaysia, the strong response at Malaysia Fair Jakarta 2026 reinforces the country’s position as one of Asia’s leading destinations for medical travel.
