Kempinski Group and China's BTG Hotels are preparing to strengthen their long-standing strategic partnership, with a particular focus on luxury hotel development and management in China. Senior representatives of both companies met in Beijing on 20 October 2026 to review their existing cooperation and identify priorities for future growth.
The discussions brought together Ayman Tawfeeq Abdulrahman Almoayed, Chairman of Kempinski Group's Supervisory Board, and Bai Fan, Chairman of BTG Hotels (Group) Co., Ltd. They were joined by Huo Yan, Chairman of Key Co. and NUO International Hotels Management, alongside executives from Key International, the joint venture through which the two groups have developed their cooperation.
The meeting reflects the importance both companies attach to China's premium hospitality sector. Kempinski intends to increase its involvement in the development and management of high-end hotels across the country, while BTG Hotels sees opportunities to broaden the partnership beyond its existing activities. Both groups also expressed interest in using their combined experience and resources to explore international expansion.
New resources for luxury hotel development
Kempinski plans to allocate additional resources to support luxury hotel projects with strong development potential in China. The company aims to improve project implementation and strengthen operational support, drawing on its international hotel management experience and established presence in the market.
The discussions did not identify specific new properties, investment amounts or opening dates. Instead, the companies concentrated on the framework for future cooperation and the resources required to advance existing and prospective projects.
Key International is expected to remain central to these plans. The joint venture provides an established platform through which Kempinski and BTG Hotels can coordinate development activities, hotel operations and management expertise.
For BTG Hotels, the partnership also offers opportunities to explore additional business areas. Bai Fan highlighted tourism and premium services as potential fields for closer cooperation, alongside further joint hotel development.
International expansion enters the discussion
An important element of the talks was the possibility of extending cooperation beyond China. Kempinski indicated that its global hotel network and operational expertise could support the international development of BTG Hotels' brands.
Such cooperation could allow the Chinese group to draw on Kempinski's experience in overseas hospitality markets, while creating additional opportunities for both companies to coordinate their international activities.
The discussions therefore extend beyond the development of individual hotels. They point towards a broader relationship combining hotel management, brand development and premium tourism services, although no specific international expansion projects were announced.
Both companies agreed to prioritise the implementation of existing initiatives and provide the operational resources necessary to move projects forward. Their immediate focus will remain on strengthening their position in China's high-end hospitality market while developing a framework for longer-term cooperation at home and internationally.
