Belavia Launches Direct Flights from Minsk to Bangkok and Phuket

Belavia Belarusian Airlines has launched its first scheduled non-stop service between Minsk and Bangkok, establishing a new direct air connection between Belarus and Thailand. The inaugural flight arrived at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport on October 26, 2026. The weekly service will be complemented by twice-weekly flights from Minsk to Phuket beginning October 29, providing travellers with direct access to two of Thailand's most important tourism destinations.

The new routes mark a transition from seasonal charter operations to scheduled services. Belavia had previously operated charter flights to U-Tapao Rayong–Pattaya International Airport and Phuket, beginning in January 2026, before suspending them during the off-season. The introduction of regular connections is intended to strengthen Thailand's accessibility from Belarus and support demand for longer holidays during the winter months.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) welcomed the inaugural Bangkok flight as part of its efforts to develop additional long-haul source markets. Eastern Europe is among the regions identified in TAT's 2027 Rebalance Market Portfolio strategy. The tourism authority sees opportunities to attract visitors interested in combining beach holidays with cultural attractions, wellness activities and nature-based experiences.

Three Weekly Flights with Airbus A330 Aircraft

Belavia operates the Minsk–Bangkok route every Sunday using an Airbus A330-200 configured with 281 seats, including 18 in Business Class and 263 in Economy Class.

Flight B2 799 departs Minsk at 03:10 and arrives in Bangkok at 17:05 local time. The return service leaves Bangkok at 19:05 and reaches Minsk at 01:50 the following day.

From October 29, the airline will also operate two weekly flights between Minsk and Phuket with the same aircraft type. According to TAT, the Phuket connection will provide approximately 2,248 additional inbound seats per month.

Together, the two routes create three weekly scheduled connections between Belarus and Thailand. They also give travellers the choice of arriving directly in Bangkok or Phuket, depending on their holiday plans.

The new services are particularly relevant for the organised leisure travel market, where tour packages are becoming increasingly important among Belarusian visitors. Direct connections can simplify the planning of longer holidays and reduce dependence on intermediate airports.

Belarusian Travellers Favour Longer Holidays

Belarus remains a relatively small but developing long-haul source market for Thailand.

In 2025, the country recorded 32,179 arrivals from Belarus, representing an increase of 56.48% compared with the previous year. Between January 1 and October 24, 2026, Thailand welcomed 23,769 Belarusian visitors, up 1.25% year on year.

For the full year, TAT expects between 30,000 and 35,000 arrivals from Belarus.

One characteristic of this market is the relatively long duration of holidays. Belarusian passport holders are eligible for Thailand's Visa on Arrival, which permits stays of up to 15 days. According to TAT, Belarusian visitors typically stay for around 15 days, compared with an average of eight days for overseas travel more generally.

Travel planning also tends to begin well in advance. Belarusian holidaymakers typically organise their winter trips approximately 140 days before departure, making early availability of flights and packages important for travel companies.

The strongest travel periods include December and January, as well as May and September–October. Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya are among the preferred destinations, while interest is also growing in wellness, sports and less demanding outdoor activities.

Thailand Targets New Long-Haul Opportunities

The introduction of Belavia's scheduled services fits into Thailand's broader strategy of diversifying its international visitor markets.

Suladda Sarutilavan, TAT's Executive Director for Europe, highlighted the opportunities created by the transition from charter flights to regular scheduled connections. She emphasised that direct access to Bangkok and Phuket would allow Belarusian travellers to combine coastal holidays with cultural, wellness and nature-based experiences.

The tourism authority considers Eastern Europe an important region for developing new long-haul opportunities in 2027. Longer stays and demand for varied holiday experiences are particularly relevant to this approach.

For hotels, destination management companies and tour operators, the additional flights could improve access to a market in which organised travel already plays a significant role.

The new Bangkok and Phuket services also provide a more predictable basis for developing winter holiday packages than the airline's earlier seasonal charter operations. Their commercial performance will help determine how far scheduled air connectivity between Belarus and Thailand can develop in the coming years.
