Thailand is developing fashion as another gateway to its destinations and cultural heritage. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) used the three-day “Thai T’Reasures by Amazing Thailand” showcase in Bangkok to connect contemporary clothing, textiles, jewellery and design with the communities and places where their materials and traditions originate.

Held from 18 to 20 September at River Park, ICONSIAM, the event combined fashion shows, exhibitions, designer collaborations and retail experiences. Rather than presenting Thai fashion solely as a consumer product, TAT placed the emphasis on its potential to inspire journeys to artisan communities and regions with distinctive textile and craft traditions.

Fashion becomes an invitation to travel

“Fashion can turn Thai identity into an inspiration to travel,” said Nat Kruthasoot, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business. “By bringing these elements together, we want visitors to discover not only what Thailand creates, but also where those ideas come from, who creates them and the destinations that give them meaning.”

Established designers appeared alongside emerging talent, artists, entrepreneurs, students and representatives of local communities. Eight Thai designer brands participated in the main “Wear the Thai T’Reasures” runway show, combining contemporary fashion with Thai textiles, jewellery and traditional craftsmanship.

Further runway presentations followed during the second day, while the final programme focused on a younger generation of designers. Students from Thammasat University, Silpakorn University, Srinakharinwirot University and regional universities presented their work.

From silkworm cocoons to Naga jewellery

Three collaborations demonstrated how cultural traditions and local materials can be translated into contemporary products and tourism experiences.

RAVIPA presented Naga-inspired jewellery under the theme “Faith to Fashion”, connecting design with spiritual and cultural travel. PREMIUM POPS and TRK combined contemporary Thai art with multifunctional textiles and headwear, while THITHA created a dress incorporating discarded silkworm cocoon shells to explore the potential of local materials in sustainable fashion.

Ten textile journeys connect fashion with destinations

Beyond the runway, the “Wear the Destination” exhibition made the tourism connection more explicit. Its “10 Textile Journeys Across Thailand” linked fabrics and techniques with their places of origin, local artisans, traditional knowledge and communities.

Interactive displays allowed visitors to trace fashion products back to the destinations and people behind them. A complementary Thai Fashion Marketplace brought together products from entrepreneurs, retailers and communities from across the country.

Through the initiative, TAT is positioning fashion tourism alongside Thailand's established cultural and creative tourism products. The concept turns textiles, jewellery and craftsmanship into starting points for exploring the regions where they are produced, giving travellers another route into the country's living cultural heritage.
