Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is preparing a high-profile comeback in Germany. In partnership with the European developer Gruppo Statuto, the company will assume management of Berlin’s historic Hotel de Rome and relaunch it as Four Seasons Hotel Berlin in late 2027. The announcement marks the brand’s return to the German capital after two decades.
A new chapter for an iconic landmark
The transition follows a comprehensive renovation that will preserve the building’s heritage façade while reimagining its interiors. Approximately 140 guest rooms and suites, along with restaurants and bars, will be redesigned to reflect a blend of timeless elegance and modern Berlin character — a mix shaped by creativity, culture and the city’s layered history.
Alejandro Reynal, President and CEO of Four Seasons, emphasises the strategic significance of the move: “We are proud to mark our return to Germany, reestablishing Four Seasons as the leading luxury hospitality offering in the market. Berlin is an important European destination to add to our global portfolio, and we look forward to collaborating once again with Gruppo Statuto, with whom we have an exceptional track record of introducing Four Seasons legendary service and experiences to some of the region's most dynamic destinations.”
From Dresdner Bank to luxury hospitality
Originally built in the late 1800s as the headquarters of the Dresdner Bank, the property was transformed into a hotel in 2006. Located on Bebelplatz in the historic Mitte district, it places guests within walking distance of St. Hedwig’s Cathedral, the Unter den Linden State Opera, Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt and Museum Island.
Hotel de Rome will continue operating under its current name through 2026, managed by Gruppo Statuto. Renovations will take place ahead of the 2027 reopening, with selected services remaining available during the transition.
Leadership of the future Four Seasons Hotel Berlin will be entrusted to Christian Poda, a Berlin native whose 26-year Four Seasons career includes regional roles in Hong Kong and oversight of properties in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Suzhou. His return to his home city underscores the importance of the project for the brand.
Giuseppe Statuto, Owner of Gruppo Statuto, highlights the shared vision: “Hotel de Rome has a rich history in Berlin and will have an exciting future in its next chapter as a Four Seasons experience. Building on the success of our projects together in Italy, we will elevate the guest experience while thoughtfully enhancing the Hotel's existing character. Together, we are confident that Four Seasons Hotel Berlin will bring this same excellence to the German market.”
Design that honours heritage
The Paris-based architectural firm Humbert & Poyet will lead the redesign, incorporating historic elements into contemporary spaces. The project includes three new restaurant and bar concepts, among them a spacious rooftop terrace with views over central Berlin that aims to become a vibrant meeting place for guests and locals.
The spa and fitness area — once the building’s jewel vault — will offer a distinctive retreat for relaxation. For events, more than 1000 square metres of indoor and outdoor venues will accommodate gatherings ranging from intimate celebrations to large meetings.
A well-connected destination
Located less than an hour from Berlin Brandenburg Airport and 15 minutes from Berlin Central Station, the future Four Seasons Hotel Berlin will be easily accessible for international and domestic travellers. High-speed rail links provide swift connections to German cities and neighbouring capitals including Vienna, Prague, Zurich, Warsaw, Budapest and Amsterdam.
The opening in 2027 will mark a significant addition to Berlin’s luxury landscape and a milestone in Four Seasons’ European development.
