Eurowings has started 2026 with solid operational performance and continued passenger growth. More than 3.6 million travellers flew with the Lufthansa Group airline during the first three months of the year, while customer satisfaction and seat occupancy both increased compared with previous periods.

The airline operated around 27,000 flights to more than 120 destinations during the quarter. More than 75 per cent of flights arrived on time despite operational challenges caused by weather disruptions and geopolitical tensions. Overall operational regularity reached 98.2 per cent.

Temporary weather-related restrictions, including several days of disrupted operations at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER), affected schedules during the quarter. In addition, Eurowings adjusted parts of its route network in response to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Despite these factors, the airline maintained strong demand, particularly in the leisure travel segment.

Customer satisfaction and seat load factor increase

Passenger feedback also remained positive. Eurowings achieved a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 46, considered a strong result within the aviation industry. According to customer surveys, more than 74 per cent of passengers said they would choose to fly with Eurowings again.

At the same time, the average seat load factor rose to 84.4 per cent, reflecting continued high demand across the network.

Eurowings expanded its overall service offering by five per cent in the first quarter, even as operations in parts of the Gulf region remained restricted.

Berlin expansion strengthens European network

A major focus of growth remains Berlin-Brandenburg Airport. For the first time, Eurowings will serve 47 destinations from BER during the summer schedule, further expanding its role in the German capital.

The airline is strengthening connections between Berlin and major European cities and capitals. New direct routes include London, Lisbon and Sarajevo, while flights to Rome are scheduled to begin in November.

At the same time, Eurowings is increasing frequencies on several high-demand leisure routes to warm-weather destinations, targeting both holidaymakers and family travellers departing from Berlin.

Point-to-point segment remains under pressure

Despite strong operational performance and growing passenger numbers, the Lufthansa Group’s point-to-point business segment — consisting of Eurowings and its stake in SunExpress — recorded an adjusted EBIT loss of 215 million euros in the first quarter of 2026.

According to the company, the result reflects both the traditionally weaker winter season and the continued rise in taxes and charges affecting Germany as an aviation hub.

Meanwhile, the number of employees at Eurowings increased to 5,500.
