Renewable
energy as a competitive advantage
Turkey
ranks among the fastest-growing countries in Europe for renewable energy.
According to Prof. Dr. Gürkan Selçuk Kumbaroğlu, Vice-Rector of Boğaziçi
University and Conference Chair of IAEE MECA 2025, the country’s installed
capacity has already exceeded 73,000 megawatts. “This means not only greater
independence in energy supply, but also a strengthening of international
competitiveness,” he explained.
Antalya
as a stage for global energy diplomacy
The
International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) will hold its conference
in Antalya from December 4–6, 2025. With this event, the Mediterranean city
once again moves into the spotlight of the global professional community. In
addition to the annual Diplomacy Forum, Antalya is establishing itself as a
venue for energy and sustainability debates – a development that also enhances
its appeal as a tourism destination.
Sustainability
as a quality marker in tourism
The
expansion of renewable energy also impacts tourism: hotels, resorts, and
leisure facilities can increasingly rely on clean energy sources. This
strengthens Turkey’s attractiveness for environmentally conscious travelers who
value sustainable offerings. “Sustainability has long been a key topic – not
only in energy policy but also for the future of tourism,” Kumbaroğlu
emphasized.
The
three pillars of sustainability
Turkey’s
energy strategy is based on ecology, economy, and society. Expanding renewable
capacities not only secures energy supply but also creates jobs and stimulates
regional investment. For tourism, this translates into stable conditions,
improved infrastructure, and a greener image that resonates strongly with
international markets.
