Lufthansa is expanding its catering options in both
Economy and Business Class from 1 September 2026. On short- and medium-haul
flights, Economy passengers will be able to pre-order five hot meals, while the
airline is also extending its long-haul Business Class meal selection service.
The new Economy offer forms part of Lufthansa’s
Onboard Delights programme, introduced in 2023. Hot meals will be available on
continental flights lasting at least two hours and must be ordered between four
weeks and 24 hours before departure.
Five hot dishes for continental flights
Passengers can choose between beef roulade with potato
dumplings, chicken teriyaki, tortellini in tomato sauce with zucchini,
Dönninghaus “Die Echte” currywurst and a cheeseburger from HANS IM GLÜCK.
The roulade, teriyaki and tortellini come with
dessert, while the currywurst is served with a bread roll. Unlike other Onboard
Delights products, the five hot dishes are available exclusively by pre-order.
“With these hot meals, we’re expanding Onboard
Delights to offer our passengers on longer continental flights an additional
selection,” says Olaf Mauthe, Head of Hospitality Catering Management at
Lufthansa. “Pre-ordering guarantees our guests that their desired meal will be
waiting for them on board.”
Business Class choice doubles to six meals
Lufthansa is also expanding its Pre-Select service for
Business Class passengers. Since August 2023, travelers departing on long-haul
flights from Frankfurt and Munich have been able to choose their main course
before departure.
From 1 September, the service will also be available
on most long-haul flights returning to Germany. At the same time, the number of
main courses available for advance selection will double from three to six.
Business Class passengers can make their choice within
the same booking window as the new Economy hot meals, from four weeks until 24
hours before departure.
Pre-ordering gains importance in onboard catering
The expansion gives Lufthansa passengers more control
over their meals before reaching the airport while allowing the airline to plan
catering according to advance demand.
For Economy passengers, the change adds a hot-meal
option to the existing buy-on-board concept on longer European flights. In
Business Class, the broader Pre-Select programme extends advance meal choice to
both outbound and most return long-haul journeys.
