Thailand: VIJIT 2026 brings light, culture and technology to three regions

Thailand is taking its VIJIT event concept beyond Bangkok with three regional editions that put local culture and identity at the centre of elaborate nighttime experiences. From 25 September to 18 October 2026, Lamphun, Trang and Roi Et will stage programmes combining light and sound, projection mapping, drone displays, multimedia technology and live performances.

Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), VIJIT Thailand 2026 is designed both to create new reasons for regional travel and to extend visitor activity into the evening. Each destination will feature ten installations or experience points developed around its own history, natural environment and cultural traditions.

“VIJIT Thailand 2026 shows how creativity and technology can present local identity in modern ways while remaining rooted in the places, people and stories that give each destination meaning,” said TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool. “Lamphun, Trang and Roi Et each offer unique cultural narratives and different ways to experience Thailand after dark.”

Lamphun illuminates its Hariphunchai heritage

The programme begins in Lamphun, where VIJIT @LAMPHUN will take place from 25 September to 4 October. Installations across the old town will be open daily from 17:00 until midnight.

Under the theme “The Eternal Kingdom of Hariphunchai”, the event draws on Lamphun's history, Buddhist heritage and architecture. Ten illuminated locations create a route through the city, including Tha Sing Bridge, Tha Nang Gate, the old city moat, the Queen Chamadevi Monument and several temples.

Light and sound performances will take place four times each evening at Tha Nang Gate and Khum Chao Chakkham Khachonsak. Selected performances at Tha Nang Gate will also incorporate fireworks. The Queen Chamadevi Monument will combine nightly multimedia presentations with cultural performances.

Trang turns a lakeside park into a nocturnal landscape

From 2 to 11 October, the focus moves south to Trang. VIJIT @TRANG will transform Chaloem Phrakiat 95 Public Park in Mueang Trang between 17:00 and 22:00 each evening.

The “Trang Lights Alive” concept uses ten installations to interpret the province's natural environment, local symbols and multicultural heritage. The lakeside setting becomes part of the experience, with themes ranging from dugongs and forests to flowers and cultural diversity.

Installations including “Magic Island”, “Soul of Forest”, “Light Bio Floral” and “Multi-culture Bridge” are intended to combine contemporary light art with elements closely associated with Trang's identity.

Roi Et puts Isan culture in the spotlight

The third edition runs from 9 to 18 October at Bueng Phlan Chai in Roi Et, with installations open from 17:00 until midnight.

VIJIT Roi Et Illumination focuses on the beliefs, music and cultural identity of Thailand's northeastern Isan region. Its ten installations use projection mapping, lasers, mist, LED technology, sound and illuminated structures.

Among the themes are the naga, the mythical Himmapan forest, local religious traditions and the inthanin flower. “Isan Playground” incorporates regional references including white squirrels and the wot, a traditional Isan musical instrument. Roi Et's distinctive octagonal pavilion also becomes part of the illuminated landscape.

The opening evening on 9 October will include a fireworks display, while live music is scheduled for 9 to 11 and 17 to 18 October.

TAT targets 200 million baht in economic activity

Beyond the visual spectacle, TAT is using the three events as a tool for regional tourism development. The authority describes VIJIT Thailand 2026 as a sustainable event prototype intended to combine destination experiences with economic opportunities for local communities and businesses.

Across Lamphun, Trang and Roi Et, TAT is targeting 150,000 online and on-site participations and 1.5 million awareness impressions. The tourism authority expects the programme to generate around 200 million baht in economic circulation.

The regional expansion follows earlier versions of the VIJIT concept, including Vijit Chao Phraya in Bangkok. By adapting the format to three very different destinations, TAT is seeking to use evening experiences not merely as attractions in themselves, but as a way of encouraging visitors to explore more of Thailand beyond its established tourism centres.
