According to the latest Economic Impact Report
published by the World Travel & Tourism Council, travel and tourism
contributed USD 178 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP in 2025. The sector accounted
for 46 percent of the region’s total tourism economy, including direct,
indirect and induced economic effects.
The report also underlines the growing importance of
tourism within the national economy. In 2025, travel and tourism represented
7.4 percent of Saudi Arabia’s GDP. With sector growth significantly above both
regional and global averages, the Kingdom further consolidated its role as the
fastest-growing tourism market in the region.
Domestic tourism continues to rise
The strong international performance is being mirrored
by growing domestic demand. According to Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism,
the country recorded 28.9 million domestic visitors during the first quarter of
2026, marking a year-on-year increase of 16 percent.
Domestic tourism spending reached SAR 34.7 billion
during the same period, reflecting the increasing importance of leisure travel
and tourism-related consumption within the Kingdom.
Large-scale tourism developments gain momentum
Across Saudi Arabia, several major tourism projects
continue to expand. AlUla is positioning itself as a cultural destination
combining heritage and contemporary arts, while developments along the Red Sea
are focusing on regenerative tourism concepts that combine luxury hospitality
with environmental sustainability.
At the same time, Qiddiya is emerging as a large-scale
entertainment destination aimed at families and international visitors.
Improved accessibility supports tourism ambitions
Saudi Arabia has continued to invest heavily in
infrastructure, international connectivity and visa facilitation measures in
recent years. These efforts are intended to make travel to the Kingdom more
accessible and efficient for international visitors.
The continued rise in leisure travel is viewed as a
key indicator of Saudi Arabia’s broader tourism transformation strategy, with
the sector playing an increasingly important role in the country’s long-term
economic diversification plans.
