W Hotels has officially opened W Sardinia – Poltu
Quatu, marking its debut on the island and continuing its expansion in Italy
alongside properties in Rome and Florence. The new resort, introduced following
a preview phase in 2025, is located on the island’s northeast coast between
Porto Cervo and Baia Sardinia.
Set in the village of Poltu Quatu, the hotel overlooks
the Marina dell’Orso and is integrated into a natural fjord landscape. The
whitewashed architecture cascades along granite cliffs and is framed by
Mediterranean vegetation and clear coastal waters.
Design rooted in place
The property was designed by the studio Meyer Davis in
collaboration with DE.TALES and features 157 rooms and suites. The architecture
builds on the original vision of architect Le Suisse, combining geometric forms
and arches with contemporary design elements.
Interior spaces draw on Sardinian culture and
mythology. The central lounge references the Janas, legendary cave-dwelling
figures from local folklore, while materials such as Orosei marble, hammered
metals and ceramics reflect the island’s natural textures. Works by Sardinian
artists are integrated throughout the hotel, creating a gallery-like
atmosphere.
Select suites offer private plunge pools, while the
two penthouse suites feature expansive terraces, private pools and
residential-style amenities.
“The opening of W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu marks an
important milestone for W Hotels as we debut on the island of Sardinia and
continue to deepen our presence across Italy,” said George Fleck. “Italy’s
cultural influence is unmatched – from design and cuisine to music and fashion
– and Sardinia brings a distinct rhythm all its own.”
Culinary concept inspired by the island
Dining at the resort is designed to reflect Sardinia’s
culinary traditions through a contemporary lens. The restaurant TANIT focuses
on seafood and local ingredients, while other venues combine international
influences with regional flavours.
Executive Chef Antonio Bitetto and Pastry Chef
Fabrizio shape the culinary offering, which emphasises seasonal products and
local sourcing. An interactive dessert concept adds a further experiential
element to the dining experience.
Public spaces such as the W Lounge and the WET Deck
pool terrace serve as social hubs, combining food, music and design in a
setting that transitions from relaxed daytime use to evening entertainment.
Experiences shaped by culture and landscape
The hotel’s programme extends beyond the property,
integrating local culture and natural surroundings. Activities include
workshops with artisans, culinary sessions and guided outdoor experiences.
Guests can also explore the coastline by boat, with excursions to destinations
such as the La Maddalena archipelago and the island of Caprera.
Wellness offerings combine indoor and outdoor
elements, including fitness facilities, yoga sessions and activities along the
coast.
With its opening, W Hotels strengthens its position in
Italy and continues to expand into destinations where local culture and
landscape play a central role in the guest experience.
