Turkish Airlines to launch scheduled flights to Urumqi
Turkish Airlines has announced plans to begin
scheduled flights to Urumqi, a major city in northwestern China. The new route
will be operated “subject to availability and market conditions,” according to
a statement published on Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform.
With the addition of Urumqi, the Istanbul-based
carrier continues to strengthen its presence in the Chinese market and expand
its long-haul network across Asia.
Expanding global reach
In December 2024, Turkish Airlines officially earned a
Guinness World Record for serving the highest number of countries worldwide,
connecting 131 countries. The airline currently carries more than 85 million
passengers annually and transports around two million tons of cargo each year,
positioning it among the largest carriers globally.
As of the end of January 2026, the airline’s fleet
comprised 522 aircraft.
Ambitious growth strategy
Chief Executive Officer Bilal Ekşi stated last month
that Turkish Airlines aims to rank among the world’s top five airlines by 2033.
By that time, the carrier plans to expand its fleet to 813 aircraft,
underlining its long-term growth ambitions and continued investment in global
connectivity.
