In celebration of Singles Day, digital travel platform
Agoda has revealed a significant rise in solo travel across Asia, with a 16%
increase in accommodation searches compared to 2024. The findings highlight a
growing trend of travelers seeking the freedom, flexibility, and self-discovery
that come with exploring the world alone.
Major cities lead the way for solo explorers
When planning their trips, solo travelers continue to
favor dynamic urban destinations. Tokyo (Japan) tops the list, followed by Bangkok
(Thailand), Seoul (South Korea), Osaka (Japan), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
These cities combine cultural heritage, world-class dining, and vibrant
nightlife—offering the ideal mix for travelers exploring independently and at
their own pace.
Solo travel growth driven by Japan, Indonesia, and
Thailand
At the forefront of this movement are travelers from Japan,
South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan, who make up the top five
solo-traveling nationalities in Asia. While Japanese travelers represent the
largest share, interest is growing fastest among Indonesians, with a 72% surge
in searches, followed by Thai travelers with a 37% increase. This trend
reflects a broader shift in how people across Asia perceive travel—moving away
from group tours and toward experiences centered on personal growth and connection.
A new era of self-guided exploration
“The rise in solo travel across Asia has become a
defining trend of 2025,” said Jay Lee, Regional Director, North Asia at Agoda.
“It reflects a growing desire for personal discovery and meaningful cultural
immersion. Agoda is thrilled to support these journeys by offering a wide range
of options tailored to solo travelers, ensuring they have everything they need
