Six Senses, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury
& Lifestyle portfolio, has signed a hotel management agreement with Patience
Capital Group (PCG) to open Six Senses Myoko, a mountainside hotel and
residences nestled at the foothills of Mount Myoko within the renowned Suginohara
ski resort.
This highly anticipated development reflects a shared
vision between Six Senses and PCG to create a destination that honors the
area’s natural beauty, cultural depth, and timeless spirit while offering a
year-round sanctuary for well-being, creativity, and adventure.
A Revitalized Destination
“Myoko Kogen is one of Japan’s oldest and most
accessible ski regions, offering a rare balance of adventure, cultural depth,
and extraordinary nature,” said Neil Palmer, Chief Operating Officer of Six
Senses. “Through our partnership with Patience Capital Group, Six Senses Myoko
will revitalize this historic destination, providing the setting for a rich
tapestry of novel experiences for all seasons.”
Located three hours by car or two hours by bullet
train from Tokyo, Six Senses Myoko is set to redefine alpine hospitality in
Japan, joining the ranks of world-class mountain destinations such as Kitzbühel
and Gstaad, yet remaining deeply rooted in Japanese tradition and landscape.
Vibrant Experiences Year-Round
The resort will feature 57 rooms and suites, many with
private onsens, alongside 21 branded residences designed for refined mountain
living. Guests will wake up to Myoko Kogen’s legendary snowfall — averaging 13.4
meters annually — and direct access to 90 hectares of ski terrain, including
Japan’s longest run (8.5 km) and its highest vertical drop (1,124 m).
In the warmer months, the region transforms into a
natural playground, with waterfalls, ancient trails, and vivid autumn foliage
offering endless opportunities for exploration. Two restaurants and a bar will
feature seasonally inspired menus, complemented by a boutique offering bespoke
equipment fittings.
A dynamic mountain village hub will serve as the
resort’s cultural and social heart — blending local craftsmanship, gastronomy,
and artistic programming to nurture community ties and celebrate the talents of
local creators and micro-industries.
Architecture Inspired by Nature
The resort’s design, led by Kengo Kuma and Kume Sekkei,
embodies a philosophy of regeneration — reviving the mountain’s lost foothill
landscape through an architectural language called “Golden Wind.” This concept
captures the motion of sunlight and air as they move across terraced rice
fields, mirroring the shifting beauty of Japan’s seasons.
Every element of the property aligns with Six Senses’
longstanding commitment to sustainability, from energy efficiency and local
sourcing to ecological preservation and immersive cultural storytelling.
Pioneering Wellness
Wellness lies at the heart of the Six Senses
experience. The Six Senses Spa Myoko will feature eight treatment rooms,
hydrotherapy circuits, private onsens, and specialized wellness journeys
curated by in-house experts and visiting practitioners. Designed for
restoration and renewal, treatments will combine modern science with traditional
Japanese healing philosophies to promote deep relaxation and long-term
vitality.
A Shared Vision for Positive Impact
For Patience Capital Group, the partnership represents
a cornerstone in its broader mission to revitalize Myoko Kogen as a
world-class, sustainable, year-round mountain destination.
“We are deeply committed to developing Myoko Kogen
into a world-class mountain retreat that celebrates the region’s rich natural
attributes and cultural heritage,” said Ken Chan, Founder, CEO and CIO of PCG.
“Partnering with IHG Hotels & Resorts to introduce the exclusive Six Senses
Myoko marks an exciting milestone in this journey. Our shared values and vision
will be key to building a destination that harmonizes luxury, sustainability,
and authenticity.”
Permitting for Six Senses Myoko is expected by March
2026, with construction commencing in April 2026 — marking the beginning of a
new chapter for Japan’s alpine hospitality, where mindful living meets timeless
mountain magic.
