The Philippines is strengthening its profile as an
emerging premium golf tourism destination in Asia. Combining championship-level
courses with tropical landscapes and integrated leisure offerings, the country
is aligning with a growing global market. Industry forecasts project the golf
tourism sector to expand from USD 24.8 billion in 2026 to USD 39.2 billion by
2036, reflecting sustained international demand.
Accessible destination with broad appeal
With flight times of three to five hours from major
Northeast Asian cities to hubs such as Manila, Cebu and Clark, the Philippines
offers convenient access alongside a wide range of travel experiences.
English-speaking hospitality and established tourism infrastructure further
support its appeal to both regional short-stay golfers and long-haul leisure
travelers.
Diverse golf experiences across regions
Rather than focusing on a single hub, the Philippines
presents a multi-destination golf landscape shaped by regional diversity.
On Luzon, courses range from the historic Club
Intramuros in Metro Manila to elevated fairways in Batangas and Tagaytay,
including Mount Malarayat Golf & Country Club, Summit Point Golf &
Country Club and Splendido Taal Golf Club overlooking Taal Lake. Clark has
developed into a modern golf centre, with facilities such as Mimosa Plus Golf
Course and Pradera Verde Golf & Country Club, complemented by Subic
International Golf Club. In the cooler highlands, Baguio’s John Hay Golf offers
a contrasting mountain setting.
In the Visayas, golf is closely tied to island
environments. Cebu features courses such as Liloan Golf & Leisure Estate,
Club Filipino de Cebu and Alta Vista Golf & Country Club, while Boracay
integrates golf with a well-established beach destination at Fairways and
Bluewater Golf & Country Club. Iloilo and Bacolod contribute cultural
depth, anchored by Iloilo Golf & Country Club, founded in 1907 and regarded
as the oldest course in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
Mindanao adds further variety with destinations such
as Davao, home to Apo Golf & Country Club, Rancho Palos Verdes Golf &
Country Club and South Pacific Golf Club. Additional locations in Cagayan de
Oro, Bukidnon and Dapitan offer quieter settings and coastal experiences.
Growing international demand
The country’s expanding relevance is reflected in a
broad international visitor base, including travelers from Australia, North
America, Europe, the Middle East and across Asia. A notable development in
early 2026 was the arrival of the first all-French golf group composed entirely
of first-time visitors, highlighting increased connectivity and growing
recognition in European markets.
Golf as part of a broader lifestyle offering
A defining feature of the Philippine golf experience
is its integration with wider leisure and lifestyle elements. Across
destinations such as Clark, Cebu, Batangas and Boracay, visitors can combine
golf with wellness, island excursions and curated dining.
Mountain destinations like Baguio offer cooler
climates, while regions such as Iloilo and Bacolod enrich the experience with
heritage and gastronomy. In Mindanao, expansive landscapes provide privacy and
immersion, complemented by emerging luxury developments.
Tourism operators increasingly offer integrated
packages that combine accommodation, transfers, dining and scheduled play into
seamless itineraries. These offerings are particularly attractive to leisure
travelers, private groups and corporate clients seeking convenience and premium
experiences.
Competitive positioning in a growing market
Compared with more established and often crowded golf
destinations in Asia, the Philippines offers space, diversity and a sense of
exclusivity. Competitive pricing further strengthens its position, presenting a
value proposition defined by quality, authenticity and ease of travel.
Within this framework, golf becomes part of a broader
narrative that combines sport with destination experience – from coastal
tee-offs to evenings shaped by local culture – positioning the Philippines as a
distinctive player in the global luxury golf tourism market.
