Moxy Hotels, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global
portfolio of more than 30 hotel brands, has officially entered the Nepalese
market with the opening of Moxy Kathmandu. The debut marks a new chapter for
lifestyle hospitality in the country, introducing Moxy’s spirited, design-led
approach to a city known for its striking contrasts between ancient heritage
and contemporary urban life.
A vibrant base in the heart of Kathmandu
Located in Durbarmarg, one of Kathmandu’s most dynamic
business and entertainment districts, Moxy Kathmandu places guests at the
centre of the city’s cultural and social pulse. Tribhuvan International Airport
is just 15 minutes away, while key landmarks such as the UNESCO-listed Durbar
Square, the Swayambhunath Stupa and the lively streets of Thamel are all within
easy reach. The hotel also offers convenient access to the city’s growing
contemporary scene, including art galleries, cafés, rooftop lounges and live
music venues.
Designed as a launchpad for modern explorers, the
hotel appeals to travellers seeking a stay that blends curiosity, creativity
and connection. From centuries-old temples and nearby hiking trails to
Kathmandu’s evolving nightlife, Moxy Kathmandu positions itself as a social hub
rather than a traditional hotel.
A lifestyle concept rooted in connection
True to the brand’s DNA, Moxy Kathmandu reimagines the
hotel experience with flexible social spaces, locally inspired design and an
atmosphere built around interaction. Guests are welcomed at The Moxy Bar, which
doubles as the hotel’s check-in counter, with a complimentary handcrafted
cocktail. The open lobby, featuring modern artwork influenced by Nepali
culture, encourages spontaneous encounters, music-driven moments and shared
experiences.
Recreational zones with games such as air hockey and
board games add a playful layer to the stay, while the signature Moxy Hookup
surprises guests with perks ranging from complimentary drinks to local snacks
and exclusive offers. The concept is aimed at the young and young at heart,
inviting guests to engage with the city in a way that feels authentic and
unconventional.
“Moxy’s bold, playful spirit is perfectly suited for a
city like Kathmandu, where tradition meets vibrant modernity,” said Kiran
Andicot, Senior Vice President, South Asia, Marriott International. “As demand
grows for experiences that are unconventional yet culturally connected, Moxy
Kathmandu brings youthful energy that matches the city’s pace. We are proud to
introduce this brand to Nepal—our first in the country and third in South
Asia.”
Smart rooms and active living
The hotel features 101 guestrooms designed to maximise
space and flexibility. Smart layouts combine comfort and functionality, with
plush bedding, walk-in showers and 55-inch HD Smart TVs. Modular furniture, peg
walls, open storage concepts and motion-activated LED lighting offer intuitive,
design-forward solutions that allow guests to tailor the space to their needs.
For guests looking to stay active, Moxy Kathmandu
includes a fully equipped fitness centre designed to suit both quick workouts
and more intensive training sessions, in line with the brand’s energetic ethos.
Dining as a destination
Food and beverage play a central role in the Moxy
Kathmandu experience. On Level 11, LA HACIENDA – Barra y Cocina Latina takes
guests on a culinary journey through Latin America, curated by renowned Mexican
chef Martin Hernandez Lopez. With panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley, an
open kitchen and a vibrant atmosphere, the venue blends bold flavours with
striking design by New York-based Mexican designer Pablo Castellanos.
For a more relaxed setting, CARIÑO – Terraza Latina
offers an open-air terrace ideal for handcrafted cocktails and skyline views.
Both venues are designed to appeal to international travellers and local
residents alike, positioning themselves as lifestyle destinations beyond the
hotel.
“Kathmandu is ancient yet modern, vibrant yet
laid-back—always evolving,” said Subarna Thapa, Captain of Moxy Kathmandu.
“That’s exactly why it’s the perfect match for Moxy. We’re creating a hotel
that’s social, expressive and full of personality, where guests don’t just
stay, they connect with the city’s energy.”
Moxy Kathmandu is now open. Further information and
reservations are available via Marriott Bonvoy.
