Marriott
International (Nasdaq: MAR) has officially completed its acquisition of the
innovative lifestyle hotel brand citizenM. As Marriott continues to expand its
global select-service portfolio, this move adds a fresh, modern option for
travelers and Marriott Bonvoy members in vibrant urban destinations worldwide.
The
citizenM portfolio currently comprises 37 open hotels with a total of 8,789
rooms in over 20 cities across the United States, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
Additionally, two more properties with over 300 rooms are in the pipeline and
expected to join Marriott's portfolio.
“As
travelers continue to seek innovative lodging that combines smart technology
with authentic, people-focused hospitality, the citizenM brand is a perfect fit
for our portfolio,” said Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott
International. “We’ve seen great success in scaling lifestyle select-service
brands like AC, Moxy, and Aloft, and we’re excited to grow citizenM’s global
footprint for our guests and Marriott Bonvoy members.”
Now
that the acquisition is finalized, Marriott will begin integrating the citizenM
hotels into its systems and platforms. Until that process is complete—expected
later this year—citizenM properties will continue to be bookable through their
existing digital channels. Members of citizenM’s subscription program will
retain their current benefits for now, with updates to be announced regarding
the program’s future under Marriott.
Once
integration is complete, citizenM will become a fully participating brand in
the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, offering even greater value and access to
rewards for members.
Founded
in 2008, citizenM is celebrated for its high-efficiency use of space, bold
design, and seamless tech integration. The brand appeals to modern,
value-conscious travelers seeking stylish, smart accommodations. Features
include intuitive in-room technology, vibrant indoor and outdoor common areas
filled with contemporary art and local artifacts, cozy and collaborative living
rooms, flexible meeting spaces, grab-and-go dining options, and lively rooftop
terraces.
