Marriott International has strengthened its strategic
partnership with Vietnam’s Sun Group by signing an agreement to develop 10 new
hotels and resorts in the country. The properties, representing nearly 4,500
rooms, will be located in the key tourism destinations of Phu Quoc and Vung Tau
and are scheduled to open between 2027 and 2030.
The agreement also marks the debut of two Marriott
brands in Vietnam: the luxury lifestyle brand W Hotels and the playful,
design-led Moxy Hotels. Altogether, the development will include properties
from eight Marriott brands, expanding the company’s presence in the rapidly
growing Vietnamese tourism market.
Rajeev Menon, President of Marriott International for
Asia Pacific excluding China, said: “Vietnam is one of the world’s most dynamic
markets for travel and tourism, so we are thrilled to be able to announce these
10 new hotels and resorts in collaboration with Sun Group. Our continued
collaboration with Sun Group reinforces our commitment to the long-term future
of Vietnam.”
Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors
of Sun Group, said the agreement reflects a shared ambition to strengthen
Vietnam’s international tourism positioning. “This agreement represents the
strategic alignment of two leading companies to elevate the scale, structure
and international positioning of destination development in Vietnam.”
Seven hotels planned for Phu Quoc
Most of the new developments will be located on Phu
Quoc, the island destination often referred to as Vietnam’s “Pearl Island.”
Seven hotels will form part of large-scale tourism developments led by Sun
Group.
At Ruby Beach in southern Phu Quoc, five hotels are
planned within an 88.4-hectare mixed-use complex being developed in preparation
for APEC 2027. The project will include properties under the W Hotels, Marriott
Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, Le Méridien and Courtyard by Marriott
brands.
On nearby Hon Thom Island, two additional beachfront
hotels will open under the Moxy Hotels and Fairfield by Marriott brands. The
island is connected to Phu Quoc by the world’s longest three-wire cable car and
is home to major leisure attractions including theme parks, entertainment
venues and the landmark Kiss Bridge.
Expansion also planned in Vung Tau
Further developments are planned in the coastal city
of Vung Tau, located southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Three new hotels are
expected to open there as part of the Blanca City project, including properties
under the Marriott Hotels, Moxy Hotels and Four Points by Sheraton brands.
The destination is set to benefit from improved
accessibility through the newly opened Long Thanh International Airport and
aims to position itself as a major beachfront tourism hub for both domestic and
international travellers.
Growing Marriott presence in Vietnam
The 10 new properties will complement Marriott’s
existing portfolio of 32 operating hotels in Vietnam across 11 brands. The
company currently has more than 50 additional properties in its development
pipeline in the country.
With the new projects in Phu Quoc and Vung Tau,
Marriott and Sun Group aim to further strengthen Vietnam’s position as an
emerging tourism, leisure and MICE destination in Asia.
