Spain
continues to consolidate its position as one of the world’s leading tourism
destinations. Between January and July 2025, international visitors spent a
total of €76.07 billion in the country, an increase of 7.2% compared to the
same period last year, according to figures published today by the National
Statistics Institute (INE).
Strong
growth in spending and arrivals
In
the first seven months of the year, Spain welcomed over 55.5 million
international visitors, up 4.1% year-on-year. This reflects a clear trend:
spending by international travellers is growing faster than the number of
arrivals, a pattern that has persisted for the past three months.
The
United Kingdom was the leading source market in terms of total expenditure,
accounting for 17.6% of all spending, followed by Germany (11.7%) and France
(8.1%). By regions, the Canary Islands (18.5%), Catalonia (18.2%) and the
Balearic Islands (15.3%) led the ranking for accumulated tourist expenditure.
July:
arrivals steady, spending surges
Spain
received 11 million international tourists in July, a 1.6% increase compared
with the same month in 2024. These visitors generated more than €16.45 billion
in spending – up 6.1% year-on-year.
On
average, each tourist spent €1,493 in July, an increase of 4.4% compared with
the previous year. Daily expenditure rose to €210, a 6.9% rise. Most visitors
stayed between four and seven nights, representing 5.3 million tourists and a
1.7% increase.
Leading
source markets in July
The
United Kingdom remained the top origin market, with more than two million
visitors who spent €2.9 billion. France followed with 1.5 million visitors
(€1.47 billion), Germany with 1.1 million visitors (€1.58 billion), and the
United States with over half a million visitors who generated €1.17 billion in
spending.
Balearic
Islands lead as main destination
The
Balearic Islands were the leading destination for international tourists in
July, welcoming 2.57 million visitors (+1%). Catalonia received 2.35 million
(-1.2%), Andalusia 1.54 million (+5.5%), the Valencian Community 1.49 million
(+1.4%), the Canary Islands 1.23 million (+6%), and Madrid 719,000 (-3.1%).
Other
regions combined received 1.12 million international visitors, up 2.3% compared
with July 2024.
