Between
January and June 2025, Spain received a total of 52 million international
passengers, marking a 6.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Passenger
arrivals from major source markets continued to rise in June, following the
upward trend established since the end of the pandemic. Among emerging markets,
notable increases were seen from China and South Korea, as well as from Turkey
and Colombia.
The
United Kingdom remained the top source market, accounting for 2.5 million
international passengers or 23.6% of the total. The Balearic Islands were the
main destination for British travellers, receiving 26.9% of them, followed by
the Canary Islands with 20.7%. Among the regions, Galicia and Murcia recorded
the strongest year-on-year growth, each surpassing 7%.
Germany
contributed 1.4 million passengers in June, making up 13.6% of the total and
showing a 1% annual increase. The Balearic Islands remained the main
destination with a 46.4% share, although this represented a 1.6% decrease.
Catalonia and the Canary Islands followed with growth rates of 3.6% and 2.7%,
respectively.
Italy
accounted for 9.7% of international arrivals in June, totalling 1 million
passengers and posting a significant 8.4% year-on-year increase. All regions
benefited from this rise except Galicia, which saw a decline. Madrid and
Catalonia together received 53.8% of these travellers. The Valencian Community
and the Basque Country showed particularly strong growth, each exceeding 20%.
France
accounted for 7.3% of the total international arrivals in June, with a 2.5%
increase. Catalonia and Madrid received 46.7% of French visitors, but the
Balearic Islands recorded the strongest growth, welcoming over 15,000
additional international passengers compared to the same month last year.
Passengers
from the Netherlands made up 4.6% of the total and experienced a 3.5% increase.
They mainly travelled to Catalonia (20.8%) and the Valencian Community (19%).
All regions except the Canary Islands recorded year-on-year growth, with
Andalusia and the Basque Country standing out.
Autonomous
Communities as Destinations
In
June, the six main autonomous communities—Madrid, Catalonia, the Balearic
Islands, the Canary Islands, Andalusia, and the Valencian Community—accounted
for 97.1% of all international arrivals. All of them saw growth, with the
Valencian Community recording the most significant increase at 10.7%, and
Madrid the most moderate at 1.5%. The Balearic Islands received the highest
number of passengers, accounting for 21.4% of total arrivals, and showed a 1.7%
increase.
Airports
Adolfo
Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport received the highest number of arrivals on
traditional airlines in June, with 1.72 million passengers (a 3.3% increase).
It was followed by Barcelona with 681,571 international passengers (up 4.4%),
and Palma with 584,278 arrivals, although Palma saw a 1.5% year-on-year
decrease. The airport with the highest year-on-year growth was Valencia, with a
12.2% increase in arrivals compared to June of the previous year.
