Delta Air Lines announced that it will reduce flights
at 40 major U.S. airports starting Friday, Nov. 7, following a directive from
the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of
Transportation (DOT). The adjustments are part of a coordinated effort to
maintain safety and operational efficiency in response to air traffic control
staffing shortages resulting from the ongoing government shutdown.
All FAA-directed cancellations for Nov. 7–8 have
already been implemented. Delta emphasized that it is providing maximum
flexibility for affected customers, allowing travelers to change, cancel, or
refund their flights — including Basic Economy tickets — without penalty during
the impacted travel period. Customers can check their flight status or modify
their travel plans via delta.com or the Fly Delta app.
Commitment to safety and transparency
Delta expects to operate the vast majority of flights
as scheduled, including all long-haul international services, and is working to
minimize disruptions while keeping safety its top priority.
The airline pledged to notify passengers as early as
possible about any schedule changes and expressed its apologies for any
inconvenience.
“These flight reductions are necessary to ensure the
continued safety of the national airspace system,” the statement said. “We
appreciate our customers’ understanding and patience as we work closely with
regulators to navigate this temporary situation.”
