A new wave is about to hit Hainan’s shores: Riyue Bay
Surf Resort, developed by China Tourism Group (CTG), will open its doors on November
11, 2025, as the country’s first resort inspired by surf culture. Blending
ocean adventure with contemporary resort living, this flagship property
introduces a fresh concept in coastal hospitality and marks a milestone for
China’s tourism and lifestyle sectors.
The Surfing Capital of China
Located on the southeast coast of Hainan Island, Wanning
boasts 109 kilometers of pristine shoreline and some of Asia’s finest surf
conditions. Riyue Bay, famed for its glassy waters and world-class waves, has
long been hailed as the “Surfing Paradise of China.” Now, Riyue Bay Surf Resort
will anchor this reputation as a spiritual home for surf enthusiasts — a place
where the ocean’s rhythm shapes an entire lifestyle.
Spanning over 10 hectares (25 acres), the resort
features a state-of-the-art surf park, two distinctive hotels, and a lively
retail and dining promenade. Its experience-driven design revolves around four
zones — Heavy Wave, Medium Wave, Light Wave, and Gentle Wave — creating a
year-round destination for surfing, leisure, and social connection.
SURFLAND: Home to China’s First Super Artificial Wave
Pool
At the heart of the resort lies SURFLAND, featuring China’s
first super artificial wave pool powered by PerfectSwell® technology from American
Wave Machines (AWM). This system uses 30 pneumatic chambers to generate
remarkably natural and consistent waves, offering rides of up to 18 seconds and
wave heights between 0.5 and 2.7 meters (1.5–9 feet).
With 23 distinct wave configurations, the pool caters
to all skill levels — from beginners to professional surfers — and can host
international competitions. Environmentally friendly and air-driven, the system
eliminates hydraulic components and potential leaks, ensuring both
sustainability and safety.
As night falls, the pool transforms into a glowing
social hub, where music, light, and surf culture merge into a vibrant evening
experience.
Surf-Inspired Lifestyle and Design
Riyue Bay Surf Resort redefines resort living through
its “Four Wave Levels” concept, integrating sport, hospitality, retail, and
culture into one seamless experience. Its two signature properties — the Yue
Chao Surf-Themed Hotel and the Yu Yue Designer Hotel — offer 132 guest rooms
that blend natural textures, coastal tones, and contemporary design for an
elegant “sleep by the sea” experience.
A Destination of Energy and Elegance
For dining and entertainment, the X-LIVIN Street
district provides a lively mix of restaurants, cafés, and nightlife — from
beachfront clubs and live music venues to Southeast Asian and international
cuisine. The area also offers boutique shops and outdoor experiences,
reflecting the free-spirited ethos of surf culture.
A New Chapter for Chinese Coastal Tourism
Riyue Bay Surf Resort embodies the idea of “creating
waves, not just waiting for them.” As China’s first resort dedicated to surfing,
it offers travelers a blend of adventure, wellness, and refined coastal living.
With its launch, Wanning will strengthen its position
as the beating heart of China’s surf scene — drawing travelers from around the
world and advancing Hainan’s vision of becoming a global destination for
leisure and lifestyle tourism.
