Condor has officially broken ground on a new temporary
maintenance hangar at Frankfurt Airport, marking a significant step in the
expansion of its technical infrastructure. The facility, which will be operated
by Condor Technik GmbH, is designed to support the airline’s growing Airbus
A330neo fleet while increasing operational flexibility and in-house maintenance
capabilities.
Located in Cargo City South, the new lightweight
hangar will provide approximately 6,400 square metres of workspace and will be
capable of accommodating either one Airbus A330 aircraft or two Airbus A32X
family aircraft simultaneously. Construction is scheduled for completion in
early 2027.
Expanding Capacity for a Modern Fleet
The project is being developed in partnership with
SpanTech International SA, KAP Architektur Development, WPV Baubetreuung and
airport operator Fraport.
According to Condor, the new facility will play an
important role in supporting the airline’s ongoing fleet modernisation
programme and reducing dependence on external maintenance infrastructure.
“Modern aircraft require modern technical
infrastructure. With this new temporary hangar, we are creating additional
maintenance capacity for our fleet, strengthening our in-house technical
expertise, and gaining greater operational flexibility at our Frankfurt base,”
said Heiko Holm, Chief Technical Officer of Condor and Managing Director of
Condor Technik GmbH.
“This project is an important milestone in the
continued development of Condor Technik and a clear commitment by Condor to the
Frankfurt location.”
First Dedicated A330neo Maintenance Facility in
Frankfurt
The new hangar will provide Condor Technik with its
first dedicated maintenance capability for the Airbus A330neo fleet at
Frankfurt Airport.
By bringing a larger share of maintenance activities
in-house, the airline aims to improve planning flexibility, optimise
operational processes and build additional technical expertise around its
long-haul fleet.
The investment also supports the continued expansion
of the A330neo programme by creating the infrastructure needed to maintain the
aircraft independently at Condor’s main operating base.
Strengthening Frankfurt as an Aviation Hub
Founded in 2008, Condor Technik GmbH serves as the
airline’s maintenance organisation and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Condor.
The company employs around 450 people across its facilities in Frankfurt,
Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Munich.
The new hangar is expected to contribute not only to
the airline’s operational efficiency but also to the long-term development of
highly skilled aviation jobs in Germany.
By expanding maintenance capabilities in Frankfurt,
Condor is reinforcing the airport’s role as a major aviation centre while
strengthening its own competitiveness and technical self-sufficiency for future
growth.
