Tourexpi
Set along the waterfront in Pudong’s vibrant Qiantan
District, the hotel brings refined luxury to one of the city’s most dynamic
neighbourhoods.
Refined waterfront luxury
Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) with interiors by
Cheng Chung Design (CCD), the architecture evokes the poise of an ocean liner
gliding along the river. Curved lines, metal panels and glass façades reflect
surrounding greenery and create a seamless connection between building and
landscape. At night, the hotel becomes a luminous riverside landmark along the
Huangpu.
Inside, a pearl-white palette meets accents of
emerald, terracotta and amber. Marble, brushed metal, warm woods and fine
textiles create interiors that balance serenity and sophistication. Art Deco
references appear throughout – from mosaic tiles to patterned carpets –
offering a contemporary homage to Shanghai’s architectural heritage.
Culinary highlights include the signature dining
venues ARAME and Fu Cheng, designed by CAP Atelier and lit by Tino Kwan. Each
delivers an intimate, residential-style dining experience rooted in Waldorf
Astoria’s tradition of culinary craftsmanship.
Candice D’Cruz, vice president, Luxury Brands, Asia
Pacific, Hilton, noted that the hotel “embodies the flowing rhythm of modern
life, while honouring the timeless elegance and legacy of the Waldorf Astoria
brand.”
Classic motifs, reinterpreted
Two design themes anchor the hotel: the sail and the
peacock. Sleek arcs extend from the façade into the lobby and guest areas,
creating a rhythmic flow reminiscent of a vessel under sail. Nautical-inspired
details appear in corridors and public spaces, while gold decorative panels and
sculptural contours echo the movement of water.
The peacock motif – a hallmark of Peacock Alley – is
reimagined through layered textures and geometric forms. In public areas,
feather-inspired patterns and floral wall coverings soften the space. A curving
marble staircase evokes the sweep of a peacock’s tail, while in Peacock Alley,
embroidered chairbacks and a floor-to-ceiling mural add a contemporary flourish
to this social salon.
A riverside sanctuary with sweeping views
At the heart of the lobby, a glass atrium frames a
signature Waldorf Astoria clock – a meeting point and symbol of connection
since 1893. The hotel offers 204 rooms and suites, many with large balconies
overlooking the Huangpu River and the West Bund skyline. Generous layouts and
panoramic views create a sense of retreat, allowing guests to feel both the
pulse of Shanghai and the slower, riverside rhythm of Qiantan.
Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan brings together
heritage, design and location to offer a tranquil yet contemporary urban escape
on the river.
