Uber plans to launch air taxi service in 2026

Uber has announced plans to introduce air taxi services as early as 2026, in partnership with electric aircraft manufacturer Joby Aviation. The new offering will allow passengers to book quiet, zero-emission air taxi rides in major global cities directly through the Uber app.

Partnership built on recent acquisition

The move follows Joby Aviation’s $125 million acquisition of Blade Air Mobility last month. Blade currently provides passenger flights by helicopter and seaplane. Joby’s founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt said: “Integrating Blade into the Uber app is the natural next step in our global partnership with Uber and will lay the foundation for the introduction of our quiet, zero-emissions aircraft in the years ahead.”

Step toward next-generation travel

Uber President and CEO Andrew Macdonald described the development as part of the company’s vision for the future: “This partnership represents a step toward the next generation of travel and reflects our long-standing belief in air mobility.”

Details to come

The companies confirmed that information on booking procedures, pricing, and availability will be announced closer to launch. Once operational, the service is expected to target some of the world’s most densely populated urban areas.
