Thai families are once again turning to Asia’s leading
urban destinations for their summer holidays, with Tokyo, Singapore and Osaka
emerging as the most searched locations for the 2026 school summer break.
According to digital travel platform Agoda, travellers are increasingly seeking
destinations that combine world-class attractions, safety and easy-to-navigate
environments suitable for all age groups.
The findings are based on accommodation searches made
on Agoda between January 1 and April 30, 2026, for stays between June 19 and
August 24, 2026, the period corresponding with the summer break in Thailand’s
international school system. Searches included at least one child, highlighting
travel patterns among families planning school holiday trips.
Family Travel Continues to Drive Summer Demand
The data suggests that families are prioritising
destinations that offer a balance of entertainment, convenience and educational
value. Beyond traditional sightseeing, many parents are looking for travel
experiences that allow children to learn through direct cultural and real-world
experiences while ensuring a relaxing holiday for the entire family.
The research also showed that the leading destinations
remained among the most searched locations in 2025, underlining their continued
popularity among Thai travellers. Hong Kong, however, recorded a slight decline
in search interest compared with the previous year.
Tokyo Retains Top Position
Tokyo once again ranked as the most searched
destination. The Japanese capital continues to attract families through its
combination of entertainment, culture and accessibility.
Major attractions such as Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo
DisneySea remain key draws for visitors travelling with children. At the same
time, efficient public transport, diverse culinary offerings, shopping
districts and cultural landmarks make the city appealing to travellers of all
generations, including grandparents travelling with extended families.
Singapore Strengthens Its Appeal
Singapore maintained its position among the top three
destinations thanks to its reputation for safety, convenience and
family-friendly infrastructure.
The city-state offers a broad range of attractions,
including Universal Studios Singapore and the S.E.A. Aquarium. Its accessible
transport system, extensive green spaces and renowned food scene also appeal to
older travellers seeking a comfortable and relaxed urban experience.
Osaka Combines Entertainment and Culture
Osaka remained one of the most sought-after
destinations for Thai families. The city is known for its major theme parks,
entertainment districts and diverse visitor attractions.
Among its highlights is the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan,
one of the largest aquariums in the world. Visitors also benefit from
convenient transport links and easy access to nearby cultural destinations such
as Kyoto and Nara. The combination of modern attractions and traditional
Japanese experiences continues to make Osaka particularly attractive for
multi-generational family travel.
Experiences for Every Generation
According to Agoda, destinations that offer a variety
of experiences—including theme parks, aquariums and interactive
attractions—continue to resonate strongly with Thai travellers. Such
destinations allow families to combine entertainment, learning opportunities
and quality time together within a single trip.
“Family travel continues to be a key driver during the
summer holiday season, especially among Thai families planning trips around
their children's school break. Destinations like Tokyo, Osaka, and Singapore
remain highly appealing because they combine world-class theme parks with
convenient travel access, diverse attractions, and experiences that cater to
both children and adults. At Agoda, we are committed to helping people see the
world for less, making these kinds of memorable family journeys more accessible
to everyone,” said Akaporn Rodkong, Country Director, Thailand and Indochina at
Agoda.
Growing Demand for Seamless Travel Planning
Agoda currently offers access to more than six million
accommodation properties, over 130,000 flight routes and more than 300,000
activities worldwide. The platform enables travellers to organise
accommodation, flights, activities and attraction tickets through a single
booking platform, supporting the growing demand for convenient and seamless
family travel experiences.
