Russian tourists return to the EU, with three countries set to benefit most
While the war in Ukraine continues—as does the European Union's ban on Russian aircraft landing, taking off, and flying over its airspace—the blockade on Russian tourists seems to be lifting with the passage of time, benefiting three countries in particular.

According to The Telegraph, France, Italy, and Spain are becoming their favorite vacation destinations. This is evidenced by data from the European Commission on visa applications throughout 2024.

France granted 24,506 more visas than in 2023, while in Italy the number of visas issued grew by 18,681. Spain completes the trio of countries with the highest increase in visas granted, with +14,447.

The newspaper emphasizes that it is not only bureaucracy that reflects the increase in Russian tourist flows to Europe, but also hotel reservations, with increases of 19% in Italy, France, Spain, and Hungary.

Entry routes

Given that the air traffic blockade from Russia remains in place, the main entry routes for these tourists are Istanbul (Turkey) and Dubai (United Arab Emirates), where they transfer before continuing their journey to the EU.
