More than 3,000 Boeing employees on strike

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) announced in a statement that union members at Boeing facilities in Missouri and Illinois have rejected the company's latest offer.

The statement noted that approximately 3,200 workers began the strike demanding a "fair" contract.

This was the union's first strike since 1996.

The statement noted that the striking workers assemble and maintain advanced fighter jets such as the F-15 and F/A-18, as well as modern missile and defense systems. It emphasized that their work is vital to supporting the national security and defense operations of the United States and its allies.

Boeing had offered a 20 percent wage increase under the new contract.
