Lima Region Strengthens Tourism Governance in Peru

New Regional Tourism Advisory Committee board for 2026–2028 brings together public authorities, private businesses, academia and other tourism stakeholders

Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has highlighted the role of the Regional Tourism Advisory Committee (CCRT) of the Lima Region in strengthening tourism governance and management. The initiative seeks to improve cooperation between the public and private sectors and turn joint planning into concrete action for the destination.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Liz Chirinos Cuadros attended the inauguration of the committee’s new Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term. The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Regional Government of Lima in Huacho.

New tourism law calls for closer cooperation

Chirinos linked the committee’s work to the objectives of Peru’s new General Tourism Law, which places greater emphasis on coordinated destination management.

“The new General Tourism Law presents us with precisely this challenge: to move towards tourism governance in which the State, the private sector, academia and other stakeholders connected with tourism are capable of working together in a coordinated manner,” she said.

According to the Deputy Minister, the committee should be more than a formal institutional body. Its role is to establish a model of tourism management based on dialogue, coordination, shared responsibility and a common vision for the region’s development.

From institutional structures to concrete action

The Ministry considers the Lima Region well positioned to further develop this collaborative approach. The next step, Chirinos said, is to move beyond establishing institutional structures and towards their consolidation, while turning participation into genuine shared responsibility and consultation into action.

“We are brought together by the need to continue strengthening a way of managing tourism based on dialogue, coordination, shared responsibility and, above all, on building a common vision for the development of the region,” she said.

The approach is intended to give the different stakeholders involved in tourism a more active role in shaping regional development rather than limiting cooperation to periodic consultation.

Mincetur pledges technical support

Chirinos also called on established Regional Tourism Advisory Committees across Peru to continuously pursue the objectives for which they were created. Mincetur will continue to provide technical assistance and institutional support.

“Let us continue working together and supporting sustainable, high-quality and safe tourism that contributes to the development of the country,” the Deputy Minister concluded.

The new board in the Lima Region will serve until 2028, with closer coordination between government, businesses, academia and other tourism stakeholders at the centre of its mandate.
