The Lufthansa Group is strengthening its premium
customer experience through a new collaboration with Starlink. From 2026
onwards, the Group plans to equip its entire fleet of around 850 aircraft with
high-speed broadband internet, covering both existing aircraft and all future
deliveries. The initiative will make Lufthansa Group the largest airline group
in Europe to deploy Starlink technology across its fleet.
High-speed connectivity across all travel classes
The new onboard internet solution is based on
satellite technology and enables an in-flight online experience comparable to
that on the ground. Higher bandwidth and increased speeds will allow passengers
to stream content, work in cloud-based environments and use other
data-intensive applications during flights. The service will be available
across all travel classes and will be offered free of charge to all status
customers and Travel ID users throughout the Lufthansa Group airlines.
Investment in premium experience and innovation
The partnership with Starlink forms part of the
Lufthansa Group’s broader investment programme in new aircraft as well as
product and service innovations along the entire travel chain. With this move,
the Group underlines its ambition to set new standards in onboard connectivity
and digital comfort for travelers.
“In our anniversary year, in which we are celebrating
Lufthansa’s 100th birthday, we have decided to introduce a new high-speed
internet solution from Starlink for all our airlines,” said Dieter Vranckx,
Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group. “The Lufthansa Group is taking
the next step and setting an essential milestone for the premium travel
experience of our customers. Connectivity on board plays an important role
today, and with Starlink, we are not only investing in the best product on the
market, but also in the satisfaction of our passengers.”
Rollout starting in 2026
The gradual introduction of Starlink connectivity on
Lufthansa Group aircraft is scheduled to begin as early as the second half of
2026. By 2029, the entire fleet is expected to be equipped with the new
broadband service. Further details regarding the rollout and onboard experience
will be announced over the course of the year.
