IHG Hotels & Resorts is adding a new chapter to its Southeast Asian presence with the signing of Mangala Estate Kuantan, an idyllic 67-villa retreat in Pahang. In partnership with the FRANKY Group of Companies, the property marks the Malaysian debut of Vignette Collection, IHG’s curated brand for distinctive hotels with a strong sense of place. The resort will enter the IHG system in mid-2026, retain its original name for the transition period, and be rebranded as Mangala Estate Kuantan, Vignette Collection in 2027 following refurbishment.
A retreat shaped by land, water and heritage
Set within lush greenery and palm plantations, the estate offers a sanctuary inspired by the healing of the land. Its 67 villas—each individually named—open onto a nature-rich environment that is home to more than 100 bird species. This immersion in the landscape reflects the Vignette Collection hallmark ‘Means for Good’, combining sustainability with meaningful guest experiences.
Bryan Chan, Vice President, Development, South East Asia & Korea, IHG Hotels & Resorts, highlights the strategic importance of the partnership: “We’re delighted to introduce Vignette Collection into Malaysia with Mangala Estate Kuantan, Vignette Collection. By adding this outstanding property to our portfolio, we continue to grow our Luxury & Lifestyle presence in the country, reflecting our confidence in its appeal as a leading tourist destination and its attractiveness as an investment opportunity. This is our first resort in Kuantan and marks IHG’s entry into Pahang. With its one-of-a-kind stay within a destination renowned for its scenic beaches and stunning waterfalls, we know that it will continue to be one of the leading hotels in the area following refurbishment and provide travellers with truly memorable stays.”
For the FRANKY Group, the brand partnership represents continuity and evolution. “We are excited to partner with IHG and introduce Mangala Estate Resort Kuantan to the Vignette Collection portfolio. Our vision for Mangala Estate has always been to offer an eco-luxury retreat that harmonises with its environment and community. IHG’s global reputation for excellence, together with Vignette Collection’s focus on individuality and purpose, makes this brand a perfect fit to share our story with a broader audience,” says Dato' Franky Chua, Managing Director and Founder of the company.
A destination growing in appeal
Kuantan, the capital of Pahang, has become one of Malaysia’s most sought-after coastal destinations. With 2.28 million visitors in 2024, it was the country’s second-most-visited location, driven by domestic demand for nature, beaches and outdoor adventure. The state government is working to expand its attractiveness for both domestic and international travellers, and the addition of Mangala Estate Kuantan supports this growth by expanding high-quality accommodation in the region.
Design, wellbeing and culinary experiences
The resort offers a curated selection of villas—from private-pool hideaways to lake-view sanctuaries and spacious two-bedroom options. As part of Vignette Collection, Mangala Estate Kuantan will include an all-day dining restaurant and a poolside bar with farm-to-table and locally inspired menus. Personalised dining options will reflect the retreat’s intimate style of hospitality.
A serene spa, wellness facilities, and two lakes designed for kayaking and water activities create a holistic environment focused on rejuvenation. Flexible meeting and event spaces for up to 400 guests make the estate suitable for celebrations, corporate retreats and team-building experiences in a tranquil natural setting.
Expanding IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle footprint
Mangala Estate Kuantan will join a growing regional portfolio, including a forthcoming Vignette Collection opening in Ho Chi Minh City. Globally, Vignette Collection comprises 27 open hotels and a pipeline of 41 properties. In Malaysia, the brand strengthens IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle offering, which includes InterContinental Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park and four pipeline hotels such as Kimpton Naluria Kuala Lumpur.
