Holland America Line has unveiled its 2027-2028 South
America and Antarctica season, placing a clear emphasis on longer, immersive
itineraries. The programme begins earlier than in previous years, creating
additional sailing opportunities across the region. All voyages in the upcoming
season are scheduled for 14 days or longer.
Nieuw Amsterdam leads expanded deployment
Nieuw Amsterdam will headline the season, marking the
ship’s debut in South America. From October 2027 through March 2028, the vessel
will operate a series of extended cruises ranging from 14 to 41 days. The
itineraries combine visits to South America’s major ports with scenic cruising
experiences in remote and environmentally distinctive regions, including
Antarctica, the Amazon River and the Chilean Fjords.
Dan Rough, Vice President of Revenue Management for
Holland America Line, commented:
“By adding more sailings, including a new Legendary
itinerary, we’re giving guests more opportunities to experience South America
and Antarctica. These voyages are designed to help travellers really connect
with the region, from the energy of South America to the history of the Inca
Coast and the awe of Antarctica.”
He added that onboard programming will reflect the
destinations visited, with regionally inspired cuisine and cultural enrichment
activities such as language and dance classes.
Legendary voyages and extended itineraries
The season opens with the 26-Day Inca Coast: Mexico
& Latin America Legendary Voyage, sailing Oct. 7, 2027, from Vancouver to
San Antonio (Santiago), Chile. The itinerary features overnight stays in Manta
(Quito), Ecuador, and Callao (Lima), Peru, alongside port calls across North
and South America. Highlights include crossing the Equator and access to
landmark destinations such as Machu Picchu.
Scenic cruising remains a central component of the
programme. Holland America Line has scheduled nine dedicated scenic cruising
experiences, including a four-day Antarctic Experience, as well as passages
through Glacier Alley, the Beagle Channel and the Chilean Fjords.
Focus on iconic overland experiences
Complementing the cruises, Holland America Line will
continue offering overland excursions designed to extend the travel experience
beyond the ports. Among the featured experiences is Machu Picchu, providing
guests with direct access to one of South America’s most significant
archaeological sites. The Galápagos Islands Overland Adventure is also
positioned as a key highlight, appealing to travellers with a strong interest
in wildlife and natural environments.
Broad itinerary portfolio
The 2027-2028 season includes a variety of route
concepts. These range from the 28-Day Legendary Amazon Explorer aboard
Zuiderdam, roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale, to multi-week Antarctica-focused
voyages and Collectors’ Voyages combining consecutive sailings. Nieuw Amsterdam
will operate multiple routes linking Buenos Aires and San Antonio (Santiago),
incorporating glacier regions, fjords and Antarctic waters.
Early booking incentives introduced
For a limited period, Holland America Line is offering
enhanced benefits under its Have It All premium package. The promotion includes
shore excursions, specialty dining, beverage packages, Wi-Fi upgrades and
prepaid crew appreciation. Mariner Society loyalty members may receive
additional onboard credit depending on booking conditions.
According to the company, the extended season
structure reflects growing demand for destination-driven, slower-paced travel
formats in long-haul markets.
