Free-diving and swimming contests highlight day three of Musandam Diving Festival
The
third day of the Musandam International Diving Festival offered a blend of
competition, exploration and education, further positioning the Omani
governorate as a world-class diving destination.
On
Wednesday, more than 65 divers joined an exploration adventure showcasing
Musandam’s deep waters and their potential as a global attraction for marine
tourism. Competitive events added excitement for both residents and visitors,
with free-diving contests testing endurance and breath control, and swimming
races featuring categories for both children and adults.
The
festival also featured alternative challenges such as the Jar Challenge and the
E-Rowing Championship, combining physical activity with entertainment and
community participation.
Education
remained central to the program. A workshop on deep-diving medicine provided
practical training, while a discussion with Kuwaiti champion diver Husain
Al-Qallaf gave attendees insights into the demands and rewards of a
professional diving career.
Launched
this year as a four-day celebration, the festival also underscores its
commitment to environmental stewardship. Divers have engaged in coral planting
and reef-cleaning activities, linking sports with marine conservation.
Organizers
emphasized that the initiative reflects Oman’s strategy to grow eco-tourism
while cementing Musandam’s role as one of the Middle East’s premier diving
hubs.
