Thailand is increasingly turning to social media
creators to influence future travel decisions in international markets. The
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) partnered with TikTok Thailand for the
TikTok LIVE Community Fest 2026, bringing more than 300 creators to Bangkok and
using first-hand experiences in the city as the basis for travel content
distributed to their followers.
The programme on 25 August focused on Song Wat, the
historic trading neighbourhood along the Chao Phraya River. Creators from
Southeast Asia, the Caucasus and Central Asia explored the district before the
event concluded with a gala at TRUE ICON HALL at ICONSIAM.
From destination experience to travel decision
For TAT, the event forms part of what the tourism
authority describes as “Creator-Powered Tourism” – using creators and their
established online communities to introduce destinations to potential
travellers in a more personal way than conventional advertising.
“Through our partnership with TikTok Thailand, TAT is
putting Creator-Powered Tourism into action by connecting authentic experiences
in Thailand with audiences around the world,” says TAT Governor Thapanee
Kiatphaibool.
She points to the growing influence of online content
on destination choices. “Travel decisions increasingly begin with what people
watch, trust and share online. When creators experience Thailand first-hand and
tell those stories through their own perspectives, they can turn discovery into
inspiration and inspiration into a desire to travel, while bringing our
culture, food, communities and contemporary way of life closer to their
followers.”
Song Wat becomes the stage for creator content
During a Team Rally, creators from Thailand,
Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore as well as markets in the Caucasus and
Central Asia explored Song Wat’s architecture, history, riverside heritage and
food culture.
The programme included tuk-tuk rides through the
century-old trading quarter as well as visits to traditional shophouses and
local businesses. Rather than presenting the neighbourhood through a
standardized campaign, the concept encouraged creators to turn their own
impressions and encounters into content for their respective audiences.
TAT hopes this process can move potential visitors
from discovering a place online to considering it for a future trip.
More than 300,000 Baht in Thailand trips
The event also included a competition between creator
teams, with Thailand travel packages worth more than 300,000 Baht in total
awarded to the winners.
The results were announced during the Victory
Celebration Gala at TRUE ICON HALL in ICONSIAM. The programme included a
meet-and-greet between creators and fans, interactive activities, five regional
TikTok LIVE Community Fest awards and performances by artists, actors and
creators.
Social communities become tourism marketing channels
The cooperation illustrates how Thailand is broadening
its international tourism marketing beyond traditional advertising and media
campaigns. Creators provide access to communities that already follow their
content and, crucially for destination marketing, have established a degree of
trust with their audiences.
By bringing international creators to Thailand and
allowing them to tell their own stories, TAT aims to distribute destination
content directly into selected source markets. The strategy is intended to turn
digital reach and personal recommendations into greater interest in travelling
to Thailand.
