The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has
introduced a new global framework designed to help destinations strengthen
their investment appeal and accelerate sustainable tourism development.
Presented by WTTC President & CEO Gloria Guevara, The Seven Principles for
Attracting Tourism Investment outlines the key conditions governments should
establish to attract long-term private investment, enhance competitiveness and
support economic growth.
Roadmap for investment-ready destinations
The framework is based on the common characteristics
of the world's most successful tourism investment destinations and provides
governments with practical guidance on creating a stable and attractive
investment environment.
According to WTTC, the principles are intended to
encourage economic growth, job creation, infrastructure development and
sustainable expansion of the Travel & Tourism sector.
Seven priorities for long-term growth
The framework identifies seven key elements that
support successful tourism investment:
·
Legal certainty and regulatory stability through a transparent and
predictable legal environment.
·
A dedicated one-stop shop that simplifies the investment process.
·
A tourism strategy aligned across government, industry, local
communities and investors.
·
Competitive fiscal policies and investment incentives.
·
Strong commitment from national leadership.
·
Comprehensive destination master plans supported by a visible pipeline
of investment projects.
·
Sustained tourism demand driven by connectivity, market potential,
favourable demographics and a skilled workforce.
Supporting sustainable development
"Around the world, the destinations attracting
the greatest levels of tourism investment share a common set of
characteristics: policy stability, long-term planning, strong leadership, and
effective collaboration between government and the private sector.
"Our Seven Principles for Attracting Tourism
Investment provide a practical framework for destinations looking to become
investment-ready, strengthen competitiveness, and attract global capital.
"Travel & Tourism has enormous potential to
drive economic growth, create quality jobs, and support communities. By
creating the right investment environment, destinations can unlock sustainable
long-term development while enhancing their competitiveness in the global
tourism market," said Gloria Guevara, President & CEO of WTTC.
