Villa Vie expands residential cruise concept with second ship

Villa Vie Residences has announced plans to launch Legacy, its second residential cruise ship, with service expected to begin in early 2029. The vessel will be officially unveiled during the second anniversary celebration of Villa Vie Odyssey, marking two years of continuous world cruising.

The expansion comes as Villa Vie Odyssey has sold more than 85% of its available residences, prompting the company to increase capacity while introducing new ownership options for prospective residents.

Larger residences and expanded onboard facilities

Legacy is being developed as a premium sister ship to Odyssey. According to the company, residences will be around 50% larger than comparable accommodations on the current vessel.

The ship is also expected to feature additional restaurants, more spacious public areas, expanded wellness facilities and a broader range of luxury amenities. Purchase prices and monthly maintenance fees are anticipated to be approximately 30% higher than on Odyssey, reflecting the larger residences and upgraded onboard offering.

“When we launched Odyssey, we set out to prove that residential cruising wasn't just possible—it was sustainable,” said Mike Petterson, Founder of Villa Vie Residences.

“Two years later, with Odyssey more than 85% sold, we've reached an exciting milestone. Legacy is the natural evolution of everything we've learned from our residents and operations around the world.”

Lifetime residency extended to both ships

Villa Vie also announced that members of its Endless Horizons lifetime residency programme will automatically receive permanent residency rights aboard Legacy once the new ship enters service.

The programme, originally launched with a one-time purchase price of US$349,999, will allow eligible owners to live aboard both Odyssey and Legacy without paying additional purchase, upgrade or transfer fees.

According to the company, the move is intended to increase the long-term value of the programme as Villa Vie expands its residential cruise fleet.

New programme bridges the gap until 2029

To address demand before Legacy enters service, Villa Vie has introduced the Legacy Bridge Program.

The company will offer only 24 places in the programme, corresponding to Odyssey's first 24 months of continuous operation. Available to the first 24 new purchasers completing ownership by 30 September 2026, the programme includes immediate residency aboard Odyssey together with a guaranteed transfer to a comparable residence on Legacy after its launch.

Participants will not pay an additional purchase price for the transfer and will retain Odyssey's lower maintenance rates even after moving to the new vessel.

Fleet expansion continues

Villa Vie plans to begin promoting Legacy immediately through its Road to Legacy campaign, featuring preview images, project updates and a countdown to the official unveiling during Odyssey's anniversary celebration.

“Our objective isn't simply to build another ship,” said Petterson. “It's to build a fleet that gives residents more choice while rewarding those who believed in this vision early. Legacy is the first step in that future.”

Further details on Legacy, including renderings, amenities, itineraries and ownership opportunities, are scheduled to be presented during Villa Vie Odyssey's Two-Year Sailaversary Celebration.
