The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has introduced
The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary, the new identity of its recently acquired
luxury retreat in Coorg, Karnataka. Set within 76 acres of ancient forests and
coffee plantations in the Western Ghats, the rebranded property reflects the
company's vision of creating luxury destinations that are deeply connected to
their natural surroundings.
The announcement coincides with The Leela's 40th
anniversary and marks another step in the expansion of India's only pure-play
luxury hospitality brand. The Forest Sanctuary becomes one of the company's
most nature-focused destinations, offering guests an immersive experience
centred on wellbeing, local heritage and the landscape of southern India.
Luxury rooted in nature and local culture
Located within one of Coorg's oldest coffee estates,
the retreat has been designed to blend contemporary architecture with Kodava
traditions, estate living and the rhythms of the surrounding forest. The IGBC
Platinum-certified property integrates local craftsmanship with its natural
environment, creating an experience where forests, wildlife and coffee
plantations form an integral part of every stay.
"The unveiling of The Leela Coorg Forest
Sanctuary represents an important milestone in our journey of creating
destinations that are deeply rooted in their surroundings. As we continue to
expand our portfolio across India's most remarkable destinations, The Leela
Coorg Forest Sanctuary reflects our belief that the most memorable luxury
experiences are those that celebrate the unique character of a destination
rather than simply existing within it," said Anuraag Bhatnagar, Chief
Executive Officer of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts.
Villas, wellness and outdoor experiences
The retreat features 71 villas, including duplex
villas, family villas, private pool villas and the four-bedroom Sunbeam
Presidential Villa overlooking the surrounding forest.
Guests can explore the region through guided forest
walks, plantation tours, birdwatching excursions, cycling routes, waterfall
visits and stargazing experiences designed to showcase the biodiversity and
slower pace of life in Coorg.
Dining celebrates regional flavours
The culinary programme highlights local ingredients
and coffee traditions. Luma serves all-day dining overlooking the lake, while
Zen specialises in Pan-Asian cuisine. Guests can also visit The Cellar or
discover the region's coffee heritage at 92 Degrees through the Estate to Brew
experience, which combines plantation walks, guided tastings and insights into
centuries of coffee cultivation.
Wellness at the heart of the retreat
A seven-acre lake forms the centrepiece of the
property, complemented by a private helipad for arriving guests. Wellness is a
key element of the experience through Aujasya by The Leela, the brand's
signature wellness philosophy inspired by traditional Indian practices.
The 27,000-square-foot wellness centre offers
personalised therapies, yoga sessions, mindfulness programmes and
nature-inspired treatments, while the Vinyasa Yoga Deck overlooking the lake
provides a tranquil setting for outdoor practice.
With 24 hotels currently operating or under
development across India, The Leela continues to expand its portfolio of luxury
hotels and resorts while focusing on experiences that celebrate the country's
diverse landscapes, cultures and traditions.
