Boat excursions continue to rank among the most
popular holiday activities for travellers seeking to explore destinations from
a different perspective. According to research conducted by TUI Musement,
almost 90% of travellers are interested in booking sea-based experiences during
coastal holidays, with half-day excursions combining sightseeing, swimming and
island visits proving particularly popular.
Based on traveller reviews, TUI Musement has
identified the highest-rated destinations for boat excursions, with Thailand,
Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Cape Verde and Spain all featuring prominently in the
ranking.
Thailand Takes the Top Two Positions
Phuket secured first place with a rating of 8.89 out
of 10. The island serves as a gateway to some of Thailand’s most famous marine
landscapes, including the Phi Phi Islands, Maya Bay and Bamboo Island.
Travellers particularly praised the combination of scenic sailing, snorkelling
opportunities and swimming in crystal-clear waters.
Khao Lak ranked second, reinforcing Thailand’s strong
reputation for boat-based tourism experiences. Excursions from the destination
often explore Phang Nga Bay, known for its dramatic limestone formations,
hidden lagoons and floating villages. Many tours also include visits to the
famous James Bond Island and opportunities for canoeing or bamboo rafting.
Portugal Impresses with Coastal Landscapes
The Algarve claimed third place thanks to its
spectacular coastline of golden cliffs, sea caves and secluded coves. Boat
trips frequently visit iconic landmarks such as Benagil Cave, Ferragudo Castle
and the Carvoeiro Lighthouse while offering opportunities for swimming and
sightseeing along the coast.
Madeira also secured a place among the highest-rated
destinations. Excursions along the island’s southwest coast provide views of
dramatic landscapes, including Cabo Girão, one of Europe’s highest sea cliffs.
Wildlife encounters, including dolphin and sea turtle sightings, add to the
appeal.
Mediterranean Destinations Remain Popular
Cyprus was represented twice in the ranking. Paphos
attracted travellers with a mix of coastal scenery, swimming opportunities and
sunset cruises, while Protaras earned recognition for excursions to the famous
Blue Lagoon and nearby natural landmarks such as Cape Greco and Konnos Bay.
In Greece, Karpathos stood out for its unspoilt
coastline and access to remote beaches that cannot be reached by road. Many
boat trips also include visits to the traditional village of Olympos, combining
natural beauty with cultural experiences.
Atlantic Islands Offer Diverse Experiences
Sal, in Cape Verde, secured a place in the top ten
thanks to its relaxed atmosphere, volcanic scenery and catamaran cruises along
the island’s coastline. Many excursions combine swimming, sunbathing and
onboard refreshments, creating a laid-back experience for visitors.
The Canary Islands also featured prominently. Tenerife
attracted travellers with excursions to Los Gigantes and Masca Bay, as well as
family-oriented themed cruises. Fuerteventura completed the ranking in tenth
place, with visitors praising coastal cruises, volcanic landscapes and popular
sunset sailing experiences.
